A-Bus Audio System

This single source A-Bus distribution module will allow you to distribute an output from your home entertainment system, or any single audio output device such as a CD player, MP3 Player, or XM radio. This system communicates through Cat 5 wiring. It sends the audio signal to the distribution panel, then to the amplified keypads. The keypads have a built-in amplifier, with a volume control then amplify the audio signal and send it to the speakers.

Expand This System

Have up to 16 keypads in your home, for a total of 32 speakers. Each Distribution Module to expands to 4 more keypads. (Do not Exceed 4 Distribution Modules Per System)

What is A-Bus?

Quality: All of the components in the the kit have a high-quality look and feel to them. Everything performs as well or better than expected. The only criticism would be that the remote provided is not the same as the one pictured. The included remote seems to be a 'basic' model which is good for little more than adjusting the volume. If the remote is a necessary component, consider purchasing the AB-500 learning remote or the AB-901 kit that includes the AB-500 and 4 sets of speakers. Installation: The complete kit really is complete. It even includes the cover plates for the wall controls and a simple 110 punch-down tool (for those of us who do not want to spend $100+ on an impact tool). The only thing not supplied is the CAT-5 and speaker cable. The most challenging part of the installation is the pulling of cable. Termination of the CAT-5 is quick and simple if you use the 110 block connector. If a crimp tool is available, the RJ-45 connector on the wall controls can be used instead. Just make sure to follow the color code for the eight wires. Also, keep the +'s and -'s of the speakers straight. Sound: The sound from the system is amazingly good _ more bass than was expected. The biggest criticism anyone has about the A-Bus system is the fact that there is 'only' 6 watts of power available to each zone. To be honest, 6W is more than adequate for a bedroom or kitchen. About 3W is a good listening volume. Of course, the speakers are vital to good sound. Get the best you can afford and make sure to follow the installation instructions. Overall: It's a good weekend project for the intermediate to advanced do-it-yourselfer. For the price, you should be very happy with the results. - BlankStare
