I want to install a speaker in a tree. Our goal is to purchase speakers that will be hidden by the tree branches and foliage. Obviously.... I need all weather (except it rarely drops below 30 degress in new orleans). Rain, however, is a given. I can hang them angled to promote water staying away from the front. So... the question... are these quite waterproof?

These speakers are a good choice because they are totally sealed. Some of our outdoor speakers that feature a tuned port can run into a problem when fully exposed to the elements because they tend to collect water inside the cabinet. However, you should have no problem with these based upon your application.

The neat thing about this speaker is that it is mutli- function. It has a selector on the back that features multiple 70 Volt settings in addtion to the 8 ohm setting. We also have a AP520 in an 8 ohm version only as well with out the70V transformer. Same cost...

Are these speakers waterproof or not. I see one of the customer service people say they are completely sealed but the manual that came with them says they are not waterproof. What gives??

The speakers are weather proof, unlike an indoor speaker the components in our outdoor speakers have been sealed so they are designed to stand up against humidity. They are meant to be outdoors in all conditions whether its extreme heat or cold, rain or snow. The speakers cannot be submerged underwater and still function properly (waterproof) Any protection you can give the speaker, like mounting them under the eaves will prolong their lifetime.
