Features and Specifications: High-end home theater meets high value in the ACE550MK 5 1/4-inch in-ceiling speaker pair. With a sophisticated crossover and the best component materials available, the ACE550MK produces stunning audio thanks in part to the robust 5¼" Kevlar woofer and 1" pivoting aluminum tweeter. Kevlar responds note for note without coloration and has big cranking power so you can dial up your surround sound system for higher listening levels. Contour switches let you tailor frequency responses to your room arrangement.
What Size Speaker Is Right for You?
The ACE550MK Kevlar Trimless In-Ceiling Speaker with a 5¼-inch cone woofer. The woofer refers to loudspeaker driver that produces low frequencies, which is very important with today’s complex digital soundtracks. A speaker’s ability to produce low frequencies depends on different factors but keep in mind that the bigger the woofer, the better it will be at producing low frequencies. That’s just physics! The ACE550MK is one of the highest end speakers in the 5¼ category due to the high quality components, like the Kevlar cone. You’re going to get excellent bass but it’s obviously a smaller speaker than our 6½ or 8-inch models. If big, heavy bass is a deal breaker for you, you may want to move up to a bigger size cone. Many our customers prefer to use the 5¼ size speakers for background audio in hallways, dining rooms, etc.
Convenient Contour Switches
The contour switches let you pin-point frequency responses to your particular room arrangement. You won't find yourself wishing for more or less treble, mid-range or bass output from one speaker just because you don't happen to sit right between them.
Paint the Grilles for a Custom Touch!
Many of our customers like to paint the grilles of their in-ceiling speakers to match their room décor. Painting the grilles/trim won’t harm your speakers but be sure to use spray paint; never a brush. Brushing the grilles can clog the holes and interfere with sound quality. We also recommend using a fine spray paint gun, the inexpensive kind that you can pick up at your local hardware store. Our in-ceiling speakers also come with a paint shield to help guide you.
Do You Have to be Super Handy to Install these Speakers?
Not necessarily. Many folks who've never cut into a wall in their lives do just fine but you should do some prep work first. If you’re a little nervous about installing your own speakers, practice with your first speaker using a thick piece of cardboard to simulate the wall or ceiling. We include clear installation instructions, along with cardboard templates, with all of our in ceiling and in wall speakers. We also have some great tutorials and videos in our learning section. You can also view or print the owner's manual for each model directly from our site.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

Questions and Answers: By Garnell from Buffalo on January 11, 2012 how do you access the treble and bass switches and the tweeter? By Customer Service - Q&A on January 12, 2012Answer:Hi Garnell,
The switches are located at each end of the bridge that holds the tweeter over the mid-bass driver (woofer) mounted to the baffle under the grill. Once the speaker is mounted (before you install the grill), you can sound check the speaker and make the desired adjustments to the bass and treble switche levels. They both feature three settings each, +3, 0 or -3 dB. You can also adjust the Pivoting tweeter if needed at this time. It features a +/- 15-degree adjustment. We would recommend aiming the tweeter directly at the dedicated listening area. Typically if the speakers are being used just for background music, you would not bother to aim the tweeter. Once the desired bass and treble level settings are adjusted and the tweeter is aimed, then you would install the grills.
CLBy Charlie from St Marys, GA on March 24, 2012 Can this speaker be used outside, in the ceiling of a covered deck area? By Customer Service - Q&A on March 26, 2012Answer:Hi Charlie,
Even though it is a covered patio, these speakers are not sealed for the elements. I would recommend an outdoor speaker like the ICE600WRS.

Purchased a pair of this ceiling speakers for my sunroom - it is one of the best 5.25 inch speakers I've heard for my life. Very clean and smooth acoustics for all musics (classic, rock, jazz...). Also wife loves the very thin trim, it almost disappear from our ceiling. - Terri You May Also Like: |
