Is this cable shielded?
1 Answer
Hi Dave: There is no shielding on this cable, but it is a twisted pair internally. The twisting of the internal jacketed conductors helps with noise rejection the tighter the twist, the more the copper, the more expensive the cable. You are also dealing with a low voltage which is as susceptible to outside interference. These also feature a CL3 rated outer jacket that is fire retardant and approved for all residential and most commercial applications. You can not install inside heating or cooling ducts. You would need a Plenum rated jacket which is much stiffer and more expensive. TL/5286

What is the difference between in the two application options "in wall use" and "direct buial"? I need to use wire for both in wall and direct burrial. Which option should I choose?
1 Answer
Hi Jason: The same cable works both applications. It has a CL3/FT4 rated outer jacket (CL for domestic and FT for Canada) CL3 and FT4 are rated for both Residential and most Commercial applications as long as you do not run it through a heating or cooling duct (where it would have to be Plenum rated). These cables are rated so they will melt and not burn so will not spread the fire or toxic fumes inside the wall. It has nothing to do with what you are running through the conductors. We also add a UV protection to the jacket making it safe for burial. Hope that helps TL/4203

What is the diameter of this cable? How many would fit in, for example, a 1 inch conduit?
1 Answer
Hi Billy: I am assuming our 2 conductor 14 gauge is less than a .25" and could fit four in a 1" conduit. TL/4822

WIll my house pass inspection if I use this wire for speakers on my deck? Or will I have to run conduit?
1 Answer
Hi Joseph, Yes your will house will pass inspection with these wires. There is no need to run conduit. Here is a description of the printing on the wires that I used to answer another question. " CL3R is a class rating for in-wall and burial installation. FT4 means it passed a Vertical flame test, has a maximum char height of 1.5 m. CMR is Communication Riser rate, Riser type cables are engineered to prevent the spread of fire from floor to floor and are suitable for vertical shaft applications. UL (Underwriter Laboratories) is a safety organization, the wire has a temperature rating of 75 Celsius or 167 Fahrenheit. RoHS (Restrictions of Hazardous Substances) compliance is confirming there are no dangerous chemicals in the wiring, like mercury or lead."

What is the difference between 2 and 4 conductor wire?
1 Answer
Hi Steve, A 2-conductor cable has one positive and one negative. A 4-conductor cable has two positives and two negatives. The 2-conductor is standard; however, customers sometimes use the 4 conductor and then split it off to a pair of speakers. We also carry 'single stereo' speakers that have a left and right connection that provides stereo sound in a single speaker. These speakers use a 4 conductor cable because you have two channels, the left and right. In most cases, however, the standard 2-conductor speaker cable is used. CL/MA 1272

Love the flexiblity of OSD's cable - make it easy to wire the house. I find out the cheap cables are very stiff and good quality in wall speaker wires are always very flexible.
