Do I need special cable to run outdoor speakers?
We strongly recommend our direct burial, CL3/FT4 waterproof cable and wire connectors that are designed for the outdoors. Our speaker wire uses a specially formulated UV-resistant, white polyethylene jacket that provides protection against water damage and allows the cables to withstand extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and high temperatures and incorporate twice the insulation of average cable. If you plan to bury the cable, OSD recommends you bury it 4-6" underground so that it's not visible nor pose a danger of somebody tripping over it. Our speaker cable is ideal to use in direct burial applications. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

Add Volume Controls
Volume controls can be a great addition to a system providing both proper impedance matching and more hands-on local control of the volume in the listening area. We offer a great selection of outdoor volume controls to choose from!

48 Questions asked on 6.5" 2-Way Architectural Indoor/Outdoor Weather-Resistant Patio Speaker Pair, Black Or White - AP670

Fan Z • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q What is the plus minus 3db frequency response? I am guessing your 30Hz response rating is at -10db? Thank you.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Fan Z: I would be guessing as well, let us found out the true specs based upon your questions. TS-2239
Brendan • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I am trying to chose between the AP670 and the AP650. These speakers will be mounted on a screened in porch approximately 15 ft apart from one another. They are being powered by a Harman Kardon AVR2650 that has plenty of power. All the write-ups look encouraging, should I pay the extra for the AP650"s?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Brendan, Excellent question! The AP650s are our high-definition 6.5" patio speakers, so they will give you a higher quality sound than the AP670s will. Although the AP670s are really nice sounding speakers, you will get better bass response and overall clarity from the AP650s. If you can manage your budget to fit the 650, we definitely encourage you to try them out. Let us know if you need anything else answered. Thanks! -BM 2313
gary • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Hello I bought these speakers a couple years ago and the grilles have rusted. Do you have aluminum versions of these grills? The speakers are fine the grills are terrible.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Gary, We do not have aluminum grills on that model, but we do offer replacement grills on our website (see link below). Try using a rust prevention cleaner on the grills along with regular maintenance. You can specify which model grill it is for in the "comments" section at the checkout page. If you have any further questions, let us know. http://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/regrfor61was.html CS 2437
Chris • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q What's the minimum power required for these speakers?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Chris, Typically you want to give a speaker at least 20 watts to get it running efficiently. Now, with only 20 watts you're going to be very limited in power/volume of that speaker, but that would be the minimum. These speakers will play best with approximately 60 - 90 watts each. -BM 2498
Danny Vee • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I see it stated on the Q&A that the Freq response of the 670 goes down to only 44hz yet on the Image for the Back of the speaker states 30hz.....I'm confused. I think this could be the perfect speaker for my needs.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Danny, Sorry, that was a typo on the speaker. The correct low end frequency is 44hz. Let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks for pointing this out! BM 2699
