Radio is no longer wanting to stay on and display tells me speaker wire. I bought wire from the local Lowe's and was good for around a year. I'm now thinking about replacing all that I replaced with this. Most of the wiring will be in the attic and will it withstand the heat of an attic? Should I go with 14 gauge or 16 gauge?
1 Answer
Hi William: We talk about minimum gauge based upon distance. 16 gauge up to 80 feet for full range signal. 80 feet to 200 feet; 14 gauge and 200 and beyond; 12 gauge. The changes for low-frequency cable up to 50 feet; 14 gauge and above 12 gauge. Note if you are connecting to Volume Controls and Speaker Selectors most of these accept 16 gauge speaker wires and are tight on 14 gauge. I would suggest a minimum of 14 AWG if you are not using either selector or volume control Think of a garden hose. A 1/4 garden hose passes less water than a 1/2 inch garden hose. You will have no problem with running either gauge of wire in your attic. Good luck TL/5248

Can I run this in buried conduit? I will need two lines (8 conductors) in 3/4" PVC. I realize conduit isn't necessary, but it's already there.

Hi Michael: Absolutely, no problem. TL/4617

Necesito saber si pueden enviarme una bobica de este producto a la CIUDAD DE MEXICO CP.03510, Product code: JA-14-4-500
1 Answer
HI Fernando: Translation, is this correct? I need to know if you can send me a coil of this product to CITY OF MEXICO CP.03510 14/4 500 ft, 14 Gauge four conductor 500 ft spool. This cable features a CL3/FT4 jacket that is approved for all Residential and most Commercial in-Wall/In-Ceiling in the US (CL3) and Canada (FT4). This cable can not be run through Heating or Cooling Ducts for Commercial or Residential or commercial. That jacket would need to be Plenum/FT6 rated. Are you looking to verify if it is certified for Mexico, or just wanting to buy a box of 500 ft? Please let me know; tim@osdaudio.com TL/4435
