I want to purchase these to pair with my outside television. Can I power these directly from a TV to a reciever or do I need an amp? It will just be these two speakers so I don't need anything crazy, but will a regular 2 channel receiver do the job? Any suggestions?
1 Answer
HI Dave: You may have a couple of options, one pre amp output from your TV to your Receiver. You will need to check to see what your speaker output settings are either variable or fixed. Fixed output connected to your receiver will be controlled by your Receivers Volume control. The variable setting would be controlled by the internal volume of your TV. Check your owners manual. Another connection option can be directly from your source (set top box, either Cable or Satellite) connected directly to your receiver (analog; RCA or via HDMI; Digitally). So the PS 520 can be powered by a Receiver or external amplifier. Again check your owner's manual for the TV and Receiver. TL/4062

The title states pair for 99.00 is that correct, because when you go to order it say 1.
1 Answer
HI Kaye: These are sold a 1 pair, two speakers one right channel and the second a left channel. We do have a single stereo planter model PS-525 which is one speaker with two separate inputs (right and a left). It plays summed Mono stereo. But the PS-520 which you are asking about are a pair each with a single two channel connections (+/-). TL/3884

Are these the PS525 but sold as paid?
1 Answer
Hi Jason, These is different speaker than the PS525. The PS520s are single voice coil speakers that are sold in pairs (right and left stereo pairs). You can connect the PS520 to a right and left stereo signal, one to each voice coil. It sums the stereo signal to a summed mono/stereo signal and is used where stereo separation is not needed or if you have a stereo signal but only have room for a single location. The PS525 are meant to be sold as a stereo pair so you connect the left output to one and the right output to the other. TL/MA

Well worth the money
Before purchasing these speakers, I read almost all of the previous reviews. The were all positive so I proceeded with the purchase. They were shipped lightning fast. They look expensive. They sound perfect, but definitely sound better once you plant something in them. I think the weight helps. The sound quality is unreal, especially for the price. Regardless, they are great. You cannot tell where the sound is coming from in your garden area. Frankly, how loud can your music be before your neighbors complain? I'll be buying them for gifts. My comment is: if you are such a freak about quality and sound and expect an outdoor rock concert, go spend $2000 on Klipsch and cover them when it rains, etc. My money is on these speakers.

Planter speaker
This was repeat purchase. I purchased the same item about 7 years ago. Worked great. I never brought it inside during the winter. At about year, 5 a hole developed in the speaker so it started to hiss. Finally replaced it this year. Cost was nearly the same as 7 years ago. Works great! Just as it did the 1st time it was purchased.

Good stealthy speakers
For the price these are great. I like the stealthy look. Sound is not stellar, but you have to spend a small fortune to get amazing sound in an open area such as that where I have the speakers placed. Very good overall.

Great speakers
I really enjoy the sound of these speakers. I have a fairly big yard and can hear them clearly all over the yard. I would definitely recommend these speakers to others. Only down side I see is that the planter section is kind of small and the dirt dries out quicker in the Texas heat they are in here. So have to water more often.

Outdoor Planter Speakers- Excellant Sound
The sound from these speakers are excellant, especially with my HD radio. They are a great addition to my patio area and the begonias planted in them are growing very well- is it possibly the music? I think so!

Very pleased!
These speakers do what I need and the price was right! The only downside is that I have them connected to a speaker divider box and they drive harder than the other two sets connected so if I want to run them all, the 'flower pots' are either too soft or the others are too loud. Other than that, they are great and people are impressed.

What a bargain
I bought these for my deck. The sound is excellent. The 360 degree sound pattern is a real plus. I had a party and everyone was trying to guess where the music was coming from. No one knows they are speakers when flowers are planted. Great design! Great bargain. The service was excellent! I would highly recommend Outdoor Speaker Depot.

Sound much better than I expected
I wasn't expecting these to sound like a pair of high end home audiophile grade stereo speakers and they don't...but they do sound pretty darn good for the price and they do exactly what I wanted them to do. We spend a lot of time on our deck and in the back yard during the summer months and wanted speakers on the deck to add background/ambient music while we are out there. We also wanted them to blend in with the space and not draw attention to themselves. These are just the ticket for our purpose. I ran the speaker wires from the receiver in the family room (zone 2) through the wall, into the basement, and then outside and under the deck. I drilled a hole under the location of each speaker so you can not see any wires in the house or on the deck. You can not tell these are speakers until you hear music coming from them. The only thing that would make them more ascetically appealing would be if they were made of real terracotta but that wouldn't be as practical, or durable. As I originally stated, I didn't expect too much in the audio quality department considering the price or design when I purchased them but I was actually a little disappointed when I first tested them out even considering my low expectations. They sounded very thin and the small amount of bass produced by them was pretty loose. We did not have anything in them on the initial sound test (no dirt/plants) but I didn't think much of that detail. I was pleasantly surprised when I fired them up the first time after filling them with potting soil and a couple ferns. The overall frequency response was much fuller and smoother. While they do not produce a tremendous amount of low frequencies, the low frequencies are now tight. These things actually sound decent now. I'm sure you can find outdoor speakers that reproduce a wider and more accurate frequency response and probably even from speakers that blend in with your outside decore but the bottom line is you would be hard pressed to do much better for the price. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

I bought this pair of ...
I bought this pair of speakers and continue to be amazed at how good they sound. Plenty of bass, which always seems to be an issue with outdoor speakers, but what really amazes me is the highs. Crisp and clear. These are real planters, and look the part. Our guests always wonder where the sound is coming from, and are blown away to learn it's coming "from the plants". I bought some plant stands from Lowes, and have the speakers elevated about 18 inches, which is perfect. Think I'm gonna order me another pair for over by the spa !
