Are These Rock Speakers Really that Durable?
We reassure customers all the time. OSD Audio rock speakers are built for all types of weather. These outdoor speakers utilize weather-resistant components for years of trouble free performance. We also use non-water absorbing materials, which is critical in winter so it won't freeze and crack. The shape is also designed to withstand large amounts of pressure, extreme temperatures and moisture. Remember though, outdoor speakers are an investment, so take care of them. Storing them away from extreme weather conditions will only lengthen the time you will get enjoying outdoor speakers.

Rock Speaker Placement Tips
Examine your backyard to determine the general area where the rock speakers would be most ideal. Try to locate them in areas where a natural rock might be found such as bordering a garden area. When selecting the location, a good rule of thumb is that the speakers should face the general listening area 12 feet to the center, 10-12 feet apart for the best stereo imaging. Also, try to avoid placing the speakers in low spots that would make the speakers vulnerable to water accumulation.

What Kind of Speaker Cable Should I Use?
We recommend using our waterproof wire and wire connectors specifically designed for the outdoors. These speaker cables that can withstand extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and high temperatures and incorporate twice the insulation and a formulated white polyethylene jacket that is U/V resistant. If you plan to bury the cable in the ground, we recommend using direct burial cable.

can they survive direct sunlight 24/7 and 130 degree ambient temperatures. I am in a hot spot in Az.

Hi Johnson, That should be fine but the paint could fade over time if in direct sunlight. Best to keep them in shaded spots.

Am I correct in saying these speakers are cordless and transmit sound through your amp?
1 Answers
Hi Len, These are not wireless speakers, but require wire to be ran from an amplifier in order to power them. We do have Bluetooth Wireless outdoor speakers. Check out our BTR-800. Thanks! BM 2771

Are they compatible with sirrus docking station?
1 Answers
Hi Deb, These speakers need to be powered by an amp/receiver. You can run a docking station into an amp/receiver as your music source, but the docking station itself will not power speakers.

Kay
from Texas asked:
June 4, 2013
Can these plug into a receiver? I want something simple to provide radio/music for outdoor by the pool but am planning on putting them on the patio. I don't know much about this stuff so can I buy an outdoor receiver to plug into an electrical outlet and then plug these into that receiver?
1 Answers
Hi Kay, Yes, these rock speakers will plug directly into a receiver. Many customers will run the wires to a receiver or amplifier located inside the house or inside a shed or enclosed area. These speakers are capable of handing 150 Watts so make sure your receiver has enough power for them (you can check the owners manual). Most receivers are about 100 watts per channel, which would be fine. We offer a small outdoor amp ( MA2), but it may not give you the power you need to really enjoy these speakers. MA 1947

Jim
from Wisconsin asked:
April 4, 2013
I have had these speakers for 3 years now, and this past winter was the 1st I left them out during the winter as they were used a little bit during this time. I ran into an issue that because of snow that was on them, some of the paint/finish has started to come off of the enclosure in spots.....is there anything I can do to remedy this, or even better what do you use to coat the speakers so I could respray them???? thanks
1 Answers
Hi Jim, OSD Audio outdoor speakers are designed for the rigors of even rough climates; however, extreme weather conditions and/or chemicals can compromise even the toughest enclosures. Typically we recommend covering them up during harsh winter months. We also recommend adding a layer clear coat (spray can only) for extra protection. You should be able to touch up the spots with outdoor spray paint that closely matches the color. CL/MA 1767

George
from Orland Park, Illinois asked:
March 5, 2013
I recently redesigned my outside patio area and am now wanting to add a sound system that will be good sounding, somewhat portable and affordable. I'm considering either the rock speakers or the Omni in ground speakers along with a economically priced receiver that can drive these speakers. I don't see needing more than 2 sets of speakers to cover my area. The only requirement for the receiver is that it have ipod/iphone capabilities(usb). AM/FM is not necessary. I'm looking for some suggestions. Thanks, George
1 Answers
Hi George, The best receiver to drive two pairs of speakers without breaking the bank would be our RX5502 made by Sherwood. While this reasonably priced receiver does not have USB, you can easily connect your iPod or other portable player via the headphone jack or RCA connection using one of our inexpensive RCA to mini adaptors. https://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/6ft-mini-to-stereo-adapter.html. The 360-degree dispersion of the omni pair (OS525) would be a great addition if you wanted something placed centrally in your back yard. The rock speakers are one directional so should be aimed at the listening area or along a fence, wall or pool. CL/MA 1676

do they have mount on the back to place them on a retaining wall

Hi Keith, The RS670-JR Rock speakers are designed to function on the ground so there is no mounting hardware included. You might consider switching to our AP670 Patio Speakers which can be mounted on just about any surface that can support the speakers. CL/MA

BIG sound out of a little speaker
VERY happy with these speakers. They are clear and full sounding. I was surprised by the amount of low end that they had as well. I was debating whether or not to get the 8" speakers but I am confident I made the right choice. I am running the AMP120 as Zone2 off of my Onkyo 5.1 surround sound. I had the volume cranked up pretty high and these babies wanted more. Granted I have not tested them outside yet but will update my review in 4 or 5 months when I do.
ProsClear, good full sounding speaker. Pack a punch, great bass for the size!
ConsHaven't found any yet.

We live in colorado and just put the speakers out a couple of weeks ago. Although we did not have rushing flood waters, we did have 7 days of heavy and continuous rain. The speakers still work and sound great!

These are really good speakers. Have them hooked up to an older Yamaha receiver and the sound is great. I have a sitting area thats 18 x 18 that the speakers are located in, then a firepit area thats about 25 x 20 behind that and no matter where I sit the sound is great.
ProsClear with good bass
ConsSound is very directional, but being outside thats good. Doesnt spread out to much.

I really didn't expect much sound since I only was powering them with my Sonos Amp which is only 50 watts per channel... But I was so surprised when I hooked them up and the sound was absolutely wonderful!! The bass, midtone and treble are outstanding!!! For such a smaller speaker they sound so big.. I want to buy 2 more!!

These totally "Rock" my pool area!
Have been wanting to install "rock" speakers around pool deck & BBQ area for a while, but was unsure about sound quality. I had been doing my research and found these with VERY GOOD reviews and a GREAT value! I ordered two sets and placed them around my 30,000 gallon in ground pool and hooked up the Kenwood 100watt per channel surround system. All I can say is WOW! These speakers have incredible sound FAR ABOVE what I expected, but everything I was hoping for! These are going to put our pool parties and our annual HUGE 4th party on a whole new scale! My guests have been totally impressed with the sound as well. Would recommend these to anyone! Thanks OSD!

Look and sound good
I wanted some speakers for listening to music while in the back yard in the pool or while grilling out but didn't want to spend a small fortune . The last pair of outdoor speakers I purchased were klipsch and really had a nice full sound with plenty of low end. These particular speakers don't come close to what I had.....that being said I didn't spend over $300 on these either. It your looking for good deep sound at a lower volume you might want to go with something else, but if you want something that sounds crisp and clear , looks good on the deck or in the landscape these are a great choice especially for the price point.

Great around the pool
Great sounding little speakers, I have these installed in planting beds around my pool, firing in the direction of the pool, and they sound great. I was a little sceptical at first, given the price, but they have really proven themselves. They are small so they are very easy to conceal with low vegitaion and they really have good bass response for an outdoor speaker. I'm powering them with an old sony 50 watt receiver, and they are clean sounding throughout the range of volumes they are played at.
