OSD Audio’s VMS300 is an impedance-matching volume control for adjusting the volume of a pair of speakers within a whole house audio system. Ideal for dining rooms, saunas, porches or other areas of the house where you want to add sound, the VMS300 maintains the full hi-fi audio frequency response with no low frequency roll-off and is equipped with the same features of volume controls that cost twice as much. Rated at 300 Watts peak, the volume control includes adjustable jumpers to add up to eight pairs of 8-ohm speakers simultaneously, and the impedance-matching feature helps stabilize the ohm load going back to the amp or receiver to avoid overheating. This is a complete volume control kit that fits into a standard single-gang box and includes the VC, junction box, screws and assorted color trim plates (white, ivory and almond) so you can choose the color that best matches the room. Compatible with almost any dedicated audio zone or whole house system, the electronics inside the VSM300 are designed with a ruler-flat frequency response while the 12-step slider provides noise-free volume control and a wide range of listening volumes.

    Features:
    • Decora style impedance-matching volume control for whole house audio systems and dedicated audio zones
    • Rated at 300 Watts peak with minimal bass roll-off
    • Impedance-matching helps stabilize the ohm load to avoid overheating
    • Accepts up to 14-gauge wiring and fits in a standard gang box with a depth of 2.9”
    • Includes junction box, screws and white, ivory and almond trim plates to match any room décor
    • Precision electronic design provides low distortion and a ruler flat frequency response
    • 12-step linear slider for pop-free control and a wide range of listening volumes
    • Installs easily and works with almost any audio system

What Is Impedance Matching Volume Control?
Impedance is a measurement of resistance to alternating current. Speakers are specified by impedance, and a common value is 8 ohms. When you’re connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp’s minimum load requirements because going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. Volume controls such as the VMS300 have selectable impedance so you can match the impedance with the number of speakers being controlled with the capabilities of your amp. A basic multi-room system will typically have an amplifier/receiver, a speaker selector, four to eight pairs of speakers, and volume controls. Impedance-matching volume controls feature three settings depending on how many speakers you are connecting. For one to two pairs of 8-ohm speakers, the setting is 1/2x; for three or four pairs of 8 ohm speakers, the setting is 4X. Volume controls do not add gain (volume) to your speakers but simply attenuate the volume up or down. During setup, you'll set the source volume to its optimum level, then the volume control turns the sound down to inaudible levels.

Matt • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I have a pair of 8 ohm outdoor speakers wired in parallel to one channel of a QSC GX3 so that the load is down to 4 ohms. One speaker faces into a neighbor's yard and I would like to be able to turn that one quieter than the other speaker on that line, would this volume control work for this without upsetting the 4 ohm impedance load on the amplifier? Or do you carry another product that would be acceptable for that application?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Matt, Are you wiring it as a bridged mono output? We are going to offer a dedicated mono volume control, but it will be about 60 to 90 days before these units are available. You can use VMS300 volume control, but you'll need to connect to a single channel (either right or left) before you connect to the amplifier and the second speaker in parallel in to the QSC. Set the VMS300 to 2x setting on the impedance Matching switch. The Amplifier should have no problem. CL/MA
Bill • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Hi - is it possible to replace the white decora panel with a stainless steel decor panel, or are the decora panels specially designed for the control? And is that the same answer both on the slider and rotary knob designs?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Bill, You should be able to find the knob style- chrome face plate easily. Although the slider style face plate is specifically designed for the unit, you might or might not be able to find a stainless steel panel that will accommodate that style. Cl
Mike • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM implanning on buying a couple of these, im using a Sony 530watt 8ohm system w two speakers & a sub, but im gonna use these volume switches & add 4 more speakers thorughout the house. how would you suggest wiring it? each switch will have 2 speakers, each @ 6-8ohms. wopuld i just use it as impedence matching for 8ohms or how would you suggest? the system im using isnt able to add speakers to it because it doesnt have actual speaker ports, thier just custom style conenctors, so im just gonna cut off the speakers & run the stereo directly into my wall jacks & then add speakers to each box in the individual rooms.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Mike, We would recommend adding a speaker selector to your system like the ISS4 with 4 volume controls, one for each zone. Its important for the stability of the system to have a volume control per zone. All of the speakers would have a direct line to the speaker selector and this would be connected to your Sony receiver as if it were a pair of speakers. (one right and one left) Secondly, how is your sub connected? Is it connected to a set of satellite speakers? CL
Curtis • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I am hooking this up to a single pair of 8 ohm speakers and there is no need for a impedance matching. The specs, documentation and box all mention a 1x non-matched switched position but I don't see it on the unit. How do I set this unit to non-impedance match throughput?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Curtis, There is a jumper inside the unit. It might not be shown in the picture but it is easily accessible during installation. By setting the VMS300 to 1/2x (the lowest setting), the impedance matching will not be in use. CL/MA 1309
Brad • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Can I use the VMS300 with up to 4 speakers on one volume control. Then connect that volume control up to one of the inputs on a OSD DM6 speaker selector. Would I turn the impedance on or off on the speaker selector. Thank you for your help
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Brad, It's best to keep the number of volume controls equal so we recommend 6 volume controls on the DSM6. Set the volume controls to 8x and turn the protection OFF on the speaker selector. You do not want both components doing the impedance matching. We recommend letting the volume control handle it, especially since you plan on doubling up one zone. CL/MA 1577
