How to Design a Killer Front Stage

If you want the kind of home theater surround sound system that�ll blow your socks off, try this configuration. Use the MK-IW550LCR as a center channel speaker (mounted horizontally) and mount two additional MK-IW550LCR are used as the Left and Right speakers (mounted vertically). This configuration will give you a front stage that�ll rival the best movie theaters. When three center channels are used to complete the front stage, you�ll hear every audio nuance engineers lay on the soundtrack because �Mid-Tweeter-Mid design can produce a lot more information than standard 2-way speakers.

Tweeters produce high frequencies in a surround sound system and high frequencies are very directional. That�s why it�s important that the tweeter remain focused. If the tweeter in your ceiling or wall speakers has the ability to pivot or swivel, aim the tweeter at the optimum listening position. This simple step will do wonders for sound quality.

Subwoofers are designed specifically for low frequencies and are supremely important in surround sound system. Invest in at least one subwoofer, and if your budget allows, two subs to cancel out dead spots.

To test your room for the best subwoofer placement, place your sub in the middle of the room. Play a movie with good low frequency effects and walk around it in a circle. Wherever it sounds best, mark the spot and place the sub there.

Powered subs include an internal amplifier while passive subs, such as our in-wall subs, rely on external amplification. Both options are good but freestanding subwoofers offer more placement flexibility.

All OSD Audio ceiling speakers include a retrofit mounting system so they can be installed without the hassle of adding a new construction bracket. The retrofit brackets (commonly referred to as Dog Ears) are activated after the ceiling speaker has been installed and your hole has been cut. Simply remove the grille so you have access to the mounting screws that activate the Dog ears. Use a screw dr> READ MOREiver or drill to secure the clamps to the wall or ceiling and you're done!

Gauge ratings for speaker cable can be confusing. The larger the gauge of the speaker cable, the longer the run can be. However, smaller gauge numbers equate to larger sizes; therefore, a 16-gauge speaker cable is smaller than a 14-gauge cable. For cable runs up to 80 feet, 16-gauge cable will be fine. For runs longer than that, go with 14 gauge to ensure that volume capability and sound quality ar> READ MOREe not degraded.
