Features and Specifications: The MK650 Spitfire Ultra Reference Series incorporates premium technologies such as Kevlar woofers, pivoting aluminum dome tweeters and sophisticated crossovers provide deep bass and exceptional top-end frequency response. Kevlar is the best component for woofers. It responds note for note without coloration and has big cranking power so you can dial up your system for higher listening levels. Contour switches let you tailor frequency responses to your room arrangement.
Trimless Speakers: Heard but Not Seen!
The Architectural Ceiling Element (ACE) Trimless Series of ceiling and In-Wall Speakers are ideal for new construction or retrofit. These elegant, flush mounted speakers blend effortlessly into any room interior and offer outstanding audio performance. The secret behind these stealthy speakers are the micro flange grilles attached by extremely powerful magnets that stay put for quick and easy installation.
What are the benefits of Butyl Rubber Surround?
Much more expensive with almost double the shelf life of foam, butyl rubber has been the choice of speaker designers looking to optimize the sound based upon materials that go together. The Surround is just one of the integral parts of the speaker's motor structure. Butyl rubber allows the use of unique cone materials like Kevlar and mineral-filled composites. Butyl Rubber gives the speaker more excursion capability featuring a deeper bass with a wider frequency response, and its shelf life is closer to 25 years compared to the foam at 12 to 15 years.
Do I need special cable for in-ceiling speakers?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. While wiring requirements will depend on your local building codes, OSD Audio offers CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for all residential and most commercial in-wall and in-ceiling applications. (The exception is you cannot run this cable in heating or cooling ducts in commercial applications.) This cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall.
What Gauge Wire Should I Use for my In-ceiling Speakers?
For runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, use 14-gauge wire.
Testing the Sound Quality of In-ceiling Speakers
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. Keep in mind, however, that these flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall or ceiling. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure (in this case your house wall) the speaker can’t produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.
Paint the Grilles for a Custom Touch!
Many of our customers like to paint the grille of their in-ceiling speakers to match their room décor. Painting the grilles/trim won’t harm your speakers but be sure to use spray paint; never a brush. Brushing the grilles can clog the holes and interfere with sound quality. We also recommend using a fine spray paint gun, the inexpensive kind that you can pick up at your local hardware store. Our in-ceiling speakers also come with a paint shield to help guide you.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

Questions and Answers: By Jerry from Auburndale Florida on January 31, 2012 Is this speaker suitable for exterior use on a covered porch By Customer Service - Q&A on January 31, 2012Answer:Jerry,
This speaker is not sealed for the elements. The ICE800wrs is though. It is great in bathrooms or covered patios.
ClBy Jim from St. Louis, MO on February 22, 2012 I am trying to decide between these speakers and some ace840. These seem higher quality, but the others are larger... I was going to get 2 sets one for a larger master bedroom 350sq ft ceilings, and another set for a covered deck... what are your recommendations? By Customer Service - Q&A on February 23, 2012Answer:Hi Jim,
The ACE650MKs are the top of the line and feature Kevlar cones, butyl rubber surrounds and an elaborate crossover network. Typically in a bedroom, you want to be able to listen while in bed so a pair of the ACE650 placed 12 feet apart with a speaker mounted above the bed on either side would be ideal, making sure to pivot the tweeter facing down towards the pillows. The ICE840 may be a better choice for outside where you will need a broader sound field. Both speakers are an excellent choice.
I hope that helps

Purchased two pair of these with the IW750LCR Trimless Kevlar 7" In Wall Center LCR Speaker "IW750LCR Trimless Center Speaker" used for 5:1 home theater and music (Denon receiver and a 10" sub)in medium size room great sound. If you have been looking at similar 6 1/2 Kevlar this is a great choice, sounds as good or better than some higher-end 6 1/2 and 8 1/2 I was considering.
Delivery was fast and well packed. - El
I ordered 5 pair of outdoor and indoor ceiling speakers and a 6 pair volume control. Great products and great service. I will pass their company along to my friends and family. - Gary
When planning our home remodelling project my wife and I were addicted to HGTV. As do-it-yourselfer wannabies we took on doubling the size of our home ourselves. When it came to music, we wanted music in every room but didn't want obtrusive bookshelf speakers every where. We settled on a modular sound system that didn't require wiring everything at once but would allow us to portion out the work as our budjet allowed. Suffice to say we have placed many orders with OSD (outdoorspeakerdepot.com). We have equipped 3 bedrooms, Kitchen, Patio, Garage and Living room with in ceiling speakers from OSD. We are now working on a Bar and pool room in our basement with 7.1 surround. The main reason I went with OSD in the first place was price, and ease of use of their website. Their website was laid out in a logical manner and I could navigate to what I was looking for in just a couple of clicks. Simple! I first placed a small order for 3 pairs of speakers. I didn't know if they were stealing me blind or what. But I got the speakers long before the sheetrock was up. But when I finally got them hooked up they sounded great. In the process I've had to return some items. It was simple. I called them up, explained that the speakers were too big for where I'd planned to put them and the gave me an RMA - Anonymous
I saw this at OSD's showroom when I bought my outdoor rock speaker. I've listened lots of speakers in my life and consider all MK series ceiling inwall speakers excellent products. Bass is strong and highs have depth and good seperation. You can listen to them all day long without hurting your ears. I don't have measurement instrument to measure the phase but from my ears, i can feel they are very corret. - Anonymous You May Also Like: |
