1. What is the crossover frequency for each driver (woofer, midrange, tweeter) ??

2. Is the midrange a sealed enclosure?

3. Can these be purchased in bull or large quantities in the future (buying one to test it out)?

1 Answer
Hi Katra:

We have two 10" 3-Way Speakers that might work for you. The ICE1080HD Standard Frame threeway In-Ceiling Speaker Speaker Crossover Points: 1000 Hz and 3000 Hz, and has closed back midrange.

Then there is the R103 Black Series threeway which features a Trimless frame with magnetic grill. Its crossover points are 1700 Hz and 2300 Hz

The R103 is part of our  Black Series lineup a direct to dealer custom speaker line. I will send you additional information on the Black Series to your email. When we added the R103, we also created a New Construction Bracket that works for both Models.

We do have better pricing available depending on quantity and wholesale status.

Can you use these outside on a covered outdoor patio
1 Answer
Hi Dennis: I believe this will work for the outside but you will want to do a little weatherproofing while installing it in the ceiling of your outdoor structure. Adding a bead of silicone to the bottom of the frame so you create a seal between the ceiling the speaker frame. It is not as if you are exposing it directly like a rock or patio speaker might be. looking to install in an insulated attick, you have suggested the MK850 in another question but can't find them on the site, i wish to use for 2 channel only and want as much bass as possible using a marantz 80w/ch for two different zones so 4 speakers in all, also are there any back boxes available for the 10''
1 Answer
Hi Robert: I am assuming you have access to your attic and also the back of the speaker once it has been installed. WE do not have a back box for the 10" but if you have access, it would be easy for you to build a box for the speaker. It would involve a two foot by the width of the joists x 1/2". You would need to cutout the hole to match the Ceiling/Sheet rock (12 1/4" cutout). Then (2) 2 x 6" or whatever will match your Ceiling joists (2 x 6, 2 x 8?) Then take a 3/4 inch board and cut it so it covers the two ceiling joists and also the two cross pieces. Before you do apply silicone to the lower seams at the bottom of the box that is sitting on top of the ceiling. Then apply the silicone to the bottom of the top board at the top of the joist and two side pieces. You might want to drop some fiber fill in the box. Before you seal the top of the box try different amounts of the fiber fill to see which you like the best. Questions; tim@osdaudio.com Good luck TL/4792

The install manual indicates a cut-out dimension of 9 5/16" for the ICE1080HD. Looking at the back of the speaker I don't see how it can fit in that size of a hole. Can you confirm this for me please?
1 Answer
Hi Eric: The owner's manual is obviously incorrect, the cutout listed in the specs is the number to go by: Cutout: 12.24" TL/4636

You said these are heavy, what is the weight of each speaker? Should I be concerned with the paper cone in an attic environment, a 1/2" plywood back box will be built and installed. Would you recommend any filler in particular for the back box?
2 Answers
Hi Rich: Adding fiber fill to the box will make the speaker think it is working in a bigger box. You can experiment with the amount. You can buy the material at any fabric store. It is the same stuff they use to stuff pillows.Poly fiber fill also available at Jo-Anna Fabrics. Just google " Where to buy fiber fill for speaker boxes", and lots of choices will pop up. You even find a technical reason for adding the fiber fill to the box. Good luck TL/4448

How do you remove the grill?
1 Answer
Hi Jamie, This model comes shipped with a grill puller tool. Otherwise, with the speaker outside the wall the frame is flexible enough to work the grill out of its slot by twisting it from side to side. TL

Wanted to install these in a room that has 14ft ceilings with primarily speaking or lecturing going on. Will this speaker work for that?
1 Answer
Hi Marcus: What are you using as a source. And will it be 8 ohm or 70V. This speaker is sold as each (a single speaker). It would need to add an external transformer if you wanted to use with 70V. I would need more info to assist you better. tim@osdaudio.com TL/4264

I am planning on buying four of these for my 5.1 surround sound. What would you recommend using for the center speaker?
1 Answer
Hi John, You can use the same speaker as the center. Generally you want the front L/R to match the center at least as far as the tweeter goes. In this case, you should do an ICE1080HD for the center as well.

Nirup

I am looking to install this in my basement with a 8ft ceiling. These would need to be installed in ceiling tile. Would you recommend these for surrounds?
1 Answer
Hello Nirup, First off, these are some great sounding speakers, but they are also very large and heavy for a tile install. Unless there's some extra support above the tile that can handle a heavy speaker, I would recommend going with a slightly smaller speaker with just as much quality, if not more. Check out the MK850 for 8", the MK650 for 6.5", or better yet, go with the MK670 for a 6.5" angle which will better direct your sound towards the listening area. All of these models are top notch and work great for any surround sound speaker. Let us know if you have any questions on these models. Thanks! -BM 2337

Jason

How does this speaker fair as an in-wall speaker? I'm considering using it as a front left-right channel speaker. I'm currently running OSD's in-wall Kevlar center channel speaker, which is excellent, with some 12" tower KLHs for the front channel. I would like to upgrade and replace the KLHs. I use a powered sub for the lows.
1 Answer
Hi Jason, Sounds like a great system. You can use the ICE1080 as a wall speaker but keep in mind that ceiling spaces tend to have more room than wall spaces. This is a large speaker and there may be some vibration. CL/MA 1301

Can this speaker be used outside in the soffit on a covered porch?
1 Answer
Hi Andy, This speaker is not weatherproof. A better choice would be our MK850 Spitfire 8" In-Ceiling speaker which is weather resistant and one of our best sounding speakers. In addition, the MK850 is sold in stereo pairs and only costs a little more than a single ICE1080 HD. I would also suggest using our OSD 14/2 speaker cable versus a 16-gauge speaker wire. You will be pleasantly surprised how much bass these products produce. TL/MA
