Most in-ceiling speakers are built to stay out of the way. The R103 is built to keep up. It is a true three-way — a 10" carbon fiber woofer with a thermoplastic rubber surround, a 2" aluminum dome midrange and a 1" pivoting titanium dome tweeter — so the midrange comes from a driver made for it rather than from a big woofer working out of its range.

Rated 125 watts RMS and 200 watts peak at 91 dB sensitivity, the R103 has the output to blend with a full home theater system. Response runs 52 Hz – 20 kHz at 0 dB and reaches 24 Hz at –10 dB, half space. Cross it over at 80 Hz to a subwoofer in a theater, or run it full range in a living room or whole-home system where it is the main speaker.

Two three-position contour switches sit on the front baffle, one for treble and one for bass, each offering –3 dB, flat or +3 dB. That is real room correction after the fact — tame a hard, reflective room or lift a dead one without touching the receiver. The tweeter pivots, so you can aim the highs at the listening position when the speaker cannot sit directly overhead.

Installation is straightforward: cut a 12.4" hole using the included template, connect to the gold-plated binding posts, and tighten the quick-turn clamps from the front of the baffle. The speaker needs 5.9" of depth behind the faceplate. The trimless grille sits nearly flush and can be painted before installation. Covered by OSD Audio’s limited lifetime warranty.
