Do I need special cable to run outdoor speakers?
We strongly recommend our direct burial, CL3/FT4 waterproof cable and wire connectors that are designed for the outdoors. Our speaker wire uses a specially formulated UV-resistant, white polyethylene jacket that provides protection against water damage and allows the cables to withstand extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and high temperatures and incorporate twice the insulation of average cable. If you plan to bury the cable, OSD recommends you bury it 4-6" underground so that it's not visible nor pose a danger of somebody tripping over it. Our speaker cable is ideal to use in direct burial applications. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.
Add Volume Controls
Volume controls can be a great addition to a system providing both proper impedance matching and more hands-on local control of the volume in the listening area. We offer a great selection of outdoor volume controls to choose from!
OSD outdoor speakers are developed with harsh conditions of the outdoors in mind. Our rock speakers use only non-water-absorbing materials and won't absorb any water. This is critical in winter so it won't freeze and crack. The shape is designed to withstand large amounts of pressure, extreme temperatures and moisture. Remember though, outdoor speakers are an investment, so take care of them. Storing them away from extreme weather conditions will only lengthen the time you will get enjoying outdoor speakers. These rock speakers utilize weather-resistant components for years of trouble free performance.

What's on your mind?
Stacey • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I am looking to purchase rock speakers as a gift for a friend. But do all of these wireless bluetooth speakers need to be connected an amp? Maybe I am looking at the wrong thing. Can you suggest a good pair or wireless bluetooth speakers please. Thank you.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PMHi Stacey: These speakers feature a built in Stereo Power Amplifier and Wireless Bluetooth Receiver that are both contained in the master /sync speaker. Therefore it has a external waterproof power supply with a 25 foot cord that powers both the amp and receiver and needs to be plugged into an AC outlet. The second or satellite speaker has to be connected to the master/sync speaker to provide left and right stereo sound (25 foot cord supplied). It syncs up with any Bluetooth enabled device one device at a time. Bluetooth range: 120 feet to 150 feet with an unobstructed line of sight; 50 feet to 75 feet when obstructed. Your results may vary depending upon your actual surroundings. I hope that answers your question TL/ 3737
paul • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM How far should these speakers be spaced apart - 10-12 ft? RS850 High Fidelity 8.5" Rock Speaker
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PMHi Paul: Think of a triangle, we recommend 10 to 12 feet apart especially if you are going to be 10 to 20 feet away from the speakers. If you are farther than 20 feet away you could go to 15 feet apart but no more than that. Even at 10 to 12 feet you should angle the speaker in towards a central point at the tip of the triangle. The key is to have the Tweeter focused on that center point. TL/3856
Mike • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Can additional paint be added to these to further camouflage them? If so, what type?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PMHi Mike: You should be able to add additional paint, I would advise bringing it to a paint store and asking an expert on the subject. TL/4372
Denny • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Will a 100 watt sherwood amp handle these speakers?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PMHi Denny: Yes the Amp will power these speakers but if it is the typical Sherwood Amplifier/Receiver it will say that if recommends 8 or 16 ohm speakers. Which means this is a chip amplifier that has no headroom, no guts and will not provide enough output to take full advantage of these speakers. And you are limited to a single pair with no ability to expand. You should take a look at our AMP200 where you will get plenty of output plus have the ability of adding a second pair and get even more output/coverage. You you could even look at a smaller pair of rocks and power three pair with the AMP200. TL/4379
Novy • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Is the grill steel or aluminum?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PMHi Novy: I believe the perforated grills are Powder Coated Steel with an additional painted coating simulating the rock finish. But I will try and confirm with our engineering to verify. TL/4401
