OSD Audio's SVC300 is an impedance-matching volume control that lets you adjust the volume of a pair of speakers independently of other speakers within a whole house audio system. Ideal for areas such dining or conference rooms where you may want softer volumes or for saunas or garages where you may want higher volumes, the SVC300 maintains the full hi-fi audio frequency response with no low frequency roll-off. Equipped with the same features of volume controls that cost twice as much, the SVC300 is rated at 300 Watts peak and includes adjustable jumpers to add up to eight pairs of 8-ohm speakers simultaneously. The impedance-matching feature helps stabilize the ohm load going back to the amp or receiver to avoid overheating and damaging expensive equipment. A complete volume control kit that fits into a standard single-gang box, the SVC300 also includes the junction box, screws and assorted color trim plates (white, ivory and almond) so you can choose the color that best matches the room. This versatile whole house volume control is compatible with almost any dedicated audio zone or whole house system, and the 12-step rotary knob adjusts the volume from inaudible to loud and everything in between.

What Is Impedance Protection?
Speakers are specified by impedance, which is a measurement of resistance to alternating current, and a common value for speakers is 8 ohms. When you're connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp's minimum load requirements because going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. The SVC300 allows you to match the impedance with the number of speakers being controlled with the capabilities of your amp. A basic multi-room system will typically have an amplifier/receiver, a speaker selector, four to eight pairs of speakers, and volume controls. Impedance-matching volume controls feature three settings depending on how many speakers you are connecting. For one to two pairs of 8-ohm speakers, the setting is 1/2x; for three or four pairs of 8 ohm speakers, the setting is 4X. Keep in mind that volume controls do not add gain (volume) to your speakers but simply attenuate the volume up or down. During setup, you'll set the source volume to its optimum level, then the volume control turns the sound down to inaudible levels.

Can I run two dual voice/coil speakers off one switch?

Hi Kyle,
You can, but it would really depend on the amp you're running. Usually an amp that can run at 4ohms is going to handle that better.

What junction box will this control fit into? I've looked at metal, plastic and wire mould and the opening is too narrow and/or the box is too shallow. I'd like to wall mount this but I'll put it in wall if necessary. Thx.

We received newer version of the SVC-300 which there was a design change that increased the size of the circuit board and changed the postion of the Input and output connectors to the top of the circuit board. Now they are not fitting into standard J box.
Where did you buy the VC?

I have a Denon AVR-4520CI receiver and am using the zone 1 and 2 outputs for sound outside the main room. Main room users 5.1, leaving remaining 2 channels. I have an OSD ATM-7. I have four pairs of speakers I'd like to use outside the 5.1 main room. I am thinking of having zone 1 from the Denon direct to one pair, then use the ATM-7 to select the other three pairs with input from Denon zone 2. If I put an SVC300 in each of these three areas, and set them to 4x, will this provide the potection I need for my amp/receiver?

Typically the Receiver manufacturers especially the Japanese companies like Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha and Pioneer do not recommend connecting more than a single pair of speakers to their second zone outputs. Their concern is that connecting anything other than a single set of speakers may cause an unsafe load to the amplifier especially if you are playing the Home Theater at the same time. Most will recommend an external amplifier like our AMP200 or AMP300. Having said that I think you have selected the proper volume controls (at the 4x setting for each) along with the ATM7 to make sure the Receiver does see an 8 ohm impedance or higher. The Japanese Receivers usually have relays to protect the amps that will shut down before any damage and the Receiver will run hotter than normal if their is an issue before shutting down. Then you might consider adding an external amplifier (all have pre-amp output for that reason). So good luck...

Hi, I have a somewhat outdated system that I'm trying to recover. I have 6 Sonamp 275SE's and 8 Mariner S63 outdoor speakers. Because of the minimum ohms on the amp (2.66) and the speakers (4), I can't drive two speakers with one amp. But if I go one amp per speaker, do I also need an individual volume control? Or said another way, can I connect two amps and two speakers to the same SVC-300?

Did you download the owner's Manual for the Sonamp and Mariner speakers? I believe you have 6 of the Sonamp amplifiers and 8 each or 4 pair of Mariner's 63. I did not see a S63 only an outdoor Patio Speaker Mariner 63 that is rated at 6 ohm nominal and 4 ohm minimum with a power rating from 5 to 100 watts. The Sonamp 275E is Rated at 75 watts at 8 ohms, 125 watts at 4 ohms and 135 watts at 2.7 ohms. 2.7 watts is equivalent to three pair of 8 ohm speakers in parallel. The Sonamp is also rated at 250 Watts bridged Mono. A little too much power if you are really planning on driving a single speaker. Technically you can easily drive a pair of Mariner 63 speakers with a single Sonamp. You could also run 2 pair of 63 speakers with a single Sonamp where your impedance would drop to 3 ohm. I found both owners manuals on line. One was for the Sonamp 275E and the other was for the mariners Series of speakers. Maybe you can tell me more about the S63 that you have. You could take pictures of the speaker both front and back. Sometimes it will have an impedance rating on the speaker. Do you have the original owner's manual as well?
