OSD Audio’s VMS300 is an impedance-matching volume control for adjusting the volume of a pair of speakers within a whole house audio system. Ideal for dining rooms, saunas, porches or other areas of the house where you want to add sound, the VMS300 maintains the full hi-fi audio frequency response with no low frequency roll-off and is equipped with the same features of volume controls that cost twice as much. Rated at 300 Watts peak, the volume control includes adjustable jumpers to add up to eight pairs of 8-ohm speakers simultaneously, and the impedance-matching feature helps stabilize the ohm load going back to the amp or receiver to avoid overheating. This is a complete volume control kit that fits into a standard single-gang box and includes the VC, junction box, screws and assorted color trim plates (white, ivory and almond) so you can choose the color that best matches the room. Compatible with almost any dedicated audio zone or whole house system, the electronics inside the VSM300 are designed with a ruler-flat frequency response while the 12-step slider provides noise-free volume control and a wide range of listening volumes.

    Features:
    • Decora style impedance-matching volume control for whole house audio systems and dedicated audio zones
    • Rated at 300 Watts peak with minimal bass roll-off
    • Impedance-matching helps stabilize the ohm load to avoid overheating
    • Accepts up to 14-gauge wiring and fits in a standard gang box with a depth of 2.9”
    • Includes junction box, screws and white, ivory and almond trim plates to match any room décor
    • Precision electronic design provides low distortion and a ruler flat frequency response
    • 12-step linear slider for pop-free control and a wide range of listening volumes
    • Installs easily and works with almost any audio system

What Is Impedance Matching Volume Control?
Impedance is a measurement of resistance to alternating current. Speakers are specified by impedance, and a common value is 8 ohms. When you’re connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp’s minimum load requirements because going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. Volume controls such as the VMS300 have selectable impedance so you can match the impedance with the number of speakers being controlled with the capabilities of your amp. A basic multi-room system will typically have an amplifier/receiver, a speaker selector, four to eight pairs of speakers, and volume controls. Impedance-matching volume controls feature three settings depending on how many speakers you are connecting. For one to two pairs of 8-ohm speakers, the setting is 1/2x; for three or four pairs of 8 ohm speakers, the setting is 4X. Volume controls do not add gain (volume) to your speakers but simply attenuate the volume up or down. During setup, you'll set the source volume to its optimum level, then the volume control turns the sound down to inaudible levels.

Howard • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I'm putting this system throughout a new home. I have one room that can only use I speaker. Can I wire this one speaker and get both sides of the stereo sound using the VMS 300? Thanks HLK Ps I have already bought everything for the rest of the house.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Howard: Do you have two or four conductors coming into the room? There is a Dual Voice Coil In-Ceiling speaker specifically created, for applications where you only have room for a single speaker but have a four conductor cable (Right and Left; +/-) coming from your central location. Check out our ACE640TT with Dual Voice Coli (2 inputs) and Dual Tweeters. It takes a stereo left and right input connection and sums the two channel to a full range mono signal. We have both a 6.5" ACE640TT and an 8.0" version the ACE840TT as well. You can add any Impedance Matching Volume Control like the VMS300 to match with all zones but has nothing to do with combining the stereo signal. The ACE speakers feature a trim-less speaker grill. We also have both a 6.5" and 8" with standard frame design. Note, most single speaker application is for bathrooms, hallways or walk-in closet. If this is for a bathroom application, the standard frame speakers are also weather resistant (WRS series) that work in the enclosed patio ceilings or indoor bathrooms. ICE600TT WRS or ICE800TT WRS. Robbie Duarte • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I have a weird set up.  I had a contractor cut an extra speaker hole in my patio ceiling.  We did not ask for it, but it's to cost prohibitive to pull the stained alder to fix the hole.  How could I use your switch to run 3 speakers?  They are not used very much, but I don't want any problems later on.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Robbie: Your application is not that unusual. As I said earlier, it is recommended you use a Dual Voice Coil speaker, and you can use the VMS300 Volume Control. You have a couple of options to wire this combination. One, you run a four-conductor wire to the Volume Control from the Amplifier or Speaker Selector. Then run another four-conductor cable to the single Dual Voice Coil speaker (Red+/Black- to the Right input White+/Green-) mounted in your third hole. You can connect a two-conductor cable to the same input connector of the Dual Voice Coil speaker first the Right speaker than the Left. These will be connected to the pair of speakers in the room one to the right speaker and then one to the left speaker. A parallel stereo connection. You could also connect to the pair of speakers first then run a single two-conductor from each to the Dual Voice Coil speaker. The Impedance setting of the VMS300 will be 1/2X if you are only running an individual Volume Control in your system. If you were connecting a second pair of speakers in another room, then the Impedance Matching Setting would be 4X on both Volume Controls. If you need further clarification, please contact me directly at tim@osdaudio.com.TL/5689
Roberto • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Can this switch control 3 individual speakers?  How would I run wires?  1 by itself and 2 in parallel?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Roberto:Your application is perfect for adding a Dual Voice Coil Summed, Mono Stereo speaker. There is a speaker available for either 6.5" or 8" depending on the size of your hole you need to fill, matching the size of the stereo pair you already have. Check out our ACE650TT (6.5" DVC) or ACE850TT (8.0 version). You will notice these are trim-less designs. For a standard frame design, check out our ICE650TT WRS (6.5") or ICE800TT WRS (8.0"). If you are using another brand of speakers, almost all Name brand companies have a DVC single stereo speaker option in their lineup. I will answer your connection question in answer to your second question.TL/5692
