Description
The OSD Audio ICE600WRS is a 6.5 inch weather resistant in-ceiling speaker pair built for high moisture areas indoors and out. Install them in bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens, or under outdoor eaves, covered patios and porches.
Each speaker uses a 6.5 inch polypropylene cone woofer with a Santoprene surround that resists heat, cold and humidity without hardening or cracking. A 1 inch pivoting polycarbonate dome tweeter can be aimed toward your listening area for clearer highs, and the rust-resistant aluminum grille is made for wet applications.
With 150 watts of power handling, 90 dB sensitivity and 8 ohm impedance, the ICE600WRS works with most stereo amplifiers, AV receivers and whole home audio systems, delivering full sound from 48Hz to 20kHz.
Built-in dog ear clamps grip the drywall as you tighten the screws, so no mounting brackets are needed for retrofit installs. The grille can be spray painted to match your ceiling. For best results, use CL3 or FT4 rated in-wall speaker wire, 16 gauge up to 100 feet and 14 gauge for longer runs. These are passive speakers and require an amplifier or receiver.

I am looking for some "outdoor" speakers for my covered patio. I am planning on mounting these in the hardy plank (1/2" or 5/8" thick, I believe) wall that was created when the cover was installed. Behind it is the old roof, it that helps you imagine how these will be installed. See attached picture. Do I need anything else to mount these? Is this a good application? Should I installed these in the eaves instead? Patio is approximately 12 feet deep by 30 feet long. Planning on running these off of my home receiver.

Hi Mike,
Based on your photo, I believe a patio speaker would be a better option. In fact, I would suggest two of our AP550TT Dual Voice Coil stereo speakers connected through our OVC300 outdoor volume control. Because this is a stereo speaker with two tweeters, it provides more music coverage (to your large area) with no concern for right and left separation. You can easily mount them 12 to 15 feet apart with the included bracket. The volume control matches the two speakers to your receiver and allows you to control the volume while in the patio. You can connect these to either the A or B speaker output from your receiver. You will need to use our 16 gauge 4-conductor CL3 rated cable. A patio speaker features a tuned enclosure specific to the drivers utilized. The in-ceiling speaker is subject to the area it is mounted in and the enclosure behind it, which (based on the image you sent) could vary greatly.

I'm not much of a tech guy so this may be a dumb question. I am building a bathroom that will have a whirlpool tub and also have a TV mounted near the foot end. I don't know how loud this tub is yet but suspect, with my lack of good hearing, I think I will have a difficult time hearing the TV. We haven't purchased the TV yet, but was planning on a TV with RCA speaker outputs and plugging in these speakers, will this work?

You are looking for a powered speaker. The ICE600wrsare passive speakers meaning they would need an amp or receiver to power then, connected by speaker wire. We do have a 2.1 system that would connect through RCA cables to your tv like descriped, the part number being OSD-Classic-1. This is a pair of powered speaker and a subwoofer, found in our bookshelf speakers category.

I want to buy 2 pair of speakers for my outdoor patio. We have a wood celing that we will mount the speakers to.
Do I need any thing else with thepurchase of the ICE 600wrs weather rest 6 1/2 " speakers. We already have the speaker wires run in the celing. Do I need the back box? I am replacing older speakers. We did not have a back box attached to the older speakers.

You can install the speaker without a back box. Some customers do add one though to improve the sound pressure level .

Look at the ICE800WRS. This features a cut-out hole of 9.25", which means increasing your current hole size slightly, then it should pop right in. If you are looking to fill just a single hole then you would want to use our ICE800TTWRS. The ICE800WRS is packaged as a stereo pair; the ICE800TTWRS is packaged as a single speaker. You should also enjoy more bass response from the 8” cone of the ICE800WRS versus the 6.5" cone of the ICE600WRS.
