In our 6.5-inch category, the ICE610 contractor series speaker with polypropylene cone woofer
is a cost effective way for the builder or homeowner to add speakers to every room with a fraction of the cost. In spite of the low price, however, customers continually review the ICE610s as exceptionally solid sounding speakers. Contributing to this is the larger 6.5-inch polypropylene cone woofer with butyl rubber surround and .5'' PEI dome tweeter. Surrounding the speaker cone, Butyl Rubber Surround is a tough, moisture-resistant rubber that helps reflect energy and provides excellent sound damping characteristics. The ICE610s are an excellent choice for price-conscious customers who appreciate a good value.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

My cutout is 8 1/2, will 6 1/2s work or do I need to go 8?

Hi Ray,
The ICE610 ceiling speaker’s cut-out diameter is 7 3/4ths inch. We list this in the features and specs under 'view more'. It is easier to make a pre-existing hole larger than smaller. As an alternative, our ICE530 ceiling speakers have a cut out of 6 5/8ths which is almost perfect for your application.

when they say pair is it 1 or 2 speakers

Hi David
A pair means 2 speakers, a left and right stereo pair. If the speaker is labeled pair, a quantity of 1 equals one pair (2 speakers).

I am going to paint the speakers. Do you recommend latex paint or spray paint from a can? I am worried about the latex paint and the grill. The spray paint seems to be a better choice.

Spray paint works just fine. Make sure there is no cloth on the inside of the grill. If so it needs to be removed and discarded.

Hi Jack,
The ICE610 is a passive device and would need an amp or receiver to power it.

Do I need to purchase impedance matching volume controls? I'm installing speakers in 8 rooms...I already have the splitter, just not sure about the volume controls.

Hi Phil:
It depends on the Speaker Selector Box (splitter)you have. Some are better than others for internal protection. While some speaker selectors work better with Impedance Matching Volume Control. As an example when you use our ISS and DSM speaker Selectors and you enable the Protection it cuts the power handling from 140 watts down to 70 Watts. While the TSM series features higher power handling and selectable protection settings. So we recommend using Impedance matching Volume Controls for the ISS and DSM speaker selectors and the TSM Speaker selector on its own. Note: you have to use Impedance Matching Volume Controls for all eight zones. We also offer the ATM7 (7 zone with IR Remote control) and SPW8 (a splitter box) which have no internal protection so we recommend using Impedance matching Volume Controls with both.
