This 6.5" wall speaker outperforms speakers that cost hundreds of dollars more. Premium technologies such as a Kevlar® woofer send chills down your spine as you listen to your favorite music or movie soundtrack, while the pivoting aluminum dome tweeter delivers outstanding top-end frequency response. The contour switches let you tailor frequency response to your room arrangement, so you won't find yourself wishing for more or less treble, midrange or bass output just because you don't sit in the "sweet spot." There is simply no better price-performance ratio speaker out there.

Audiophiles Love Kevlar® Woofers
Kevlar® is a super strong material known for its ability to produce powerful but very smooth bass tones. Kevlar® woofer cones retain their shape even at very high energy levels, which means you can crank up the volume and experience spine-tingling sound without distortion or coloration.

Why choose in-wall speakers over regular speakers?
Typically, rectangular in shape in-wall speakers are mounted in the wall and take up far less space than traditional box speakers. Customers love that wires are neatly concealed behind the wall and OSD in-walls can even be painted to match a room décor. Most in-wall speakers use the wall cavity as their enclosure or cabinet, which explains why in-wall must be installed to sound right. In-wall speakers come with special screws (called dog ears) that flip out and secure to the drywall (or other wall surfaces), a nearby stud, or a special frame attached to the studs. Custom installation frames (brackets) can also be purchased for a more secure fit or for lighter wall materials that require more support. In wall speakers are often categorized by the size of the woofer, not the size of the speaker itself.

What Type of Speaker Wire and What Gauge?
Wiring is not included with in-wall speakers so you will have to purchase some. We recommend our OSD Audio CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for in-wall and outdoor speaker installs. This type of cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high-quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

Installation Tips: For optimal sound, separate speakers by six to ten feet. Carefully plan the layout of your home theater system, as speaker installation requires that you cut a hole in your wall.

For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

Customer Service • 03/18/2020, 2:03:13 PM
A I apologize for the delay in response to your question. Yes the MK-W650 is sold as a pair of speakers. Thank you!
James • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I want to buy 2 pairs of these for my 5.1 surround sound home theater living room (2 front and 2 rear). I already own a sony subwoofer for the lows and will be pushing these speakers with my Onkyo 509 receiver. So far I have heard of nothing but good reviews for these OSD speakers. Overall, how do you like these speakers and if you could go back and do it again is there anything that you would change? Thanks! - James

A Also... The MKW-650 is a great choice for the Left and Right channel of the front stage. You mentioned a Sony Subwoofer but no center channel speaker to complete the LCR (channels 1, 2 and 3 of the 5.1). The perfect match for these speakers is the MK-1W550LCR dual 5.25". It features the same cone material, frequency response, and identical tweeter as the MKW-650 speakers. This provides the perfect timbre match for your front stage. You can go with the MKW-650 for the rears as well or you can go with two each of our OSD MK-670 angled In-ceiling LCR speakers that would be ideal mounted above and slightly behind your seating/viewing area. Sometimes the ceiling has more access. This would be the optimum Custom Home Theater system that provides excellent performance at a great price. If we had to go back, we would make the exact speakerswe truly believe in the quality.
Bill • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Are the screens and trim for the MKW-650 paintable
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Bill, Yes they are paintable, we recommend spray paint only for the grills so it does not clog the holes. There is a cloth on the back of the grills that must be removed before spray painting. There is also Cutout template that doubles for a paint shield that covers the baffel while you paint he frame.CL
Petter • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q do i need to make a case inside the walls for these? and the mk-iw550 center speaker? or any other ideas? petter
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Petter: It depends on how much room you have behind the speaker. In the US I would know the area behind the speakers would be roughly 10.16cm deep and 39.4cm wide. And typically there would be additional fire breaks (cross studs) above an below the speaker. The speaker itself usually provides an effective seal with the Sheetrock it is mounted to. It does not hurt to add a little fiber file around the speaker to fill the cavity. Certainly if your application has no enclosure on the backside of the intended wall you would need to custom build something. All our in-wall and in-ceiling speakers feature an infinite baffle so it can fit into almost any enclosure size. The Fiber fill helps fine tune the installation. I hope that helps TL
