The IW850 is designed for ultimate performance in the digital home theater environment. Equipped with an aluminum dome tweeter that delivers ultra-smooth voicing and precise separation between instruments, along with an 8
Kevlar woofer for deep extended bass response, its a hallmark of performance for the discerning listener. When clarity, projection and dynamics count, choose the IW85.
Kevlar is best component for woofer, it responds note for note without coloration and has big cranking power so you can dial up your system for higher listening levels.
The contour switches will let you tailor frequency response to your room arrangement. You won't find yourself wishing for more or less treble, mid-range or bass output from one speaker just because you don't happen to sit right between them.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed

Question:
Can you provide ideal speaker box volume for the IW850 and IW750LCR speakers? I have two IW850's and one IW750LCR and would like to build in-wall back boxes for these speakers. Thank you!
Answer:
You can use the cut-out size as a guide for the length and width. As for depth, take the speaker depth and clearance behind the wall into consideration before building the box.
Question:
I am looking at speakers for front & center of my surround sound. Would I get a better effect from 3 of the MK-IW550LCR or 1 MK-IW550LCR with two IW850? Suggestions?
Answer:
You will get much better bass with IW850, plus if you happen to listen to 2-channel stereo music, the IW850 is super.

I bought a pair of these for our kitchen, and I'm very impressed! Like most speakers, these sound far better for on-axis listening, but they sound pretty good outside the room also. I spent a little over $300 for a pair of these, a volume control, wall plate, and wiring (only half of which I ended up using). That's $200 less than just the Def Techs I was looking at, so to say I'm pleased would be an understatement. Great company, great service, and great sound. Thank you! - Jason
I bought and installed a pair of these as the L and R front speakers of a home theater system. These speakers are absolutely incredible...amazing sound. They project a nice, rich base, but have enough treble to be an effective home theater speaker, too. They were also very easy to install. I highly recommend. - James
I have set up a pair of IW850 for stereo listening, due to space limitation. Easy intallation, quality build, nice looking. Sound is nice for highs, ok for lows due to it is inwall speakers.
I use a dedicated sub that fills the lower notes very nicely, Yamaha YST-315, excellent combination with IW-850. If you are getting the 8" for the base, get the 6" instead and invest in a good sub. Otherwise delivery was quick and well packaged, great company to do business with.
I compared side by side with mid level bookshelf speakers: Klipsh B-3 and Polks M-40, the I-W850 did an excellent job, when paired with a subwoofer.
The highs are somewhat bright but really clean and no distortion at higher volumes. I use an HK-3490 stereo receiver, 120 amp. It drives these speakers with ease and very little distortion.
The Kevlar woofers have a nice tone to it and are capable of a clean sound reproduction. These speakers can get really loud. I keep the treble/base at the zero position.
Out of the box they sounded first "weird". as they need a break in time so give it 100 hourse or so of play time it will open up and sound much better. I highly recommend this product for HT or music listening coupled with a nice subwoofer.
The price was excellent compared to the more popular brands and honestly I thought they sounded better to my critical ears. Sure you can top them but you will have to spent an extra 500 to 1000 dollars per pair. - pallpoul
Love these speakers. Great quality. - Michelle
