Do these come in any color other than white? If not, can the grill be painted?

Answer:

Hi Brian

These come in an off-white color that is easily paintable without using a primer. It includes a cutout template that doubles as a paintshield. You will need to remove the soft cloth inside the grillsf when you paint them.

Is this model IW840 a 3-way magnetically shielded speaker?

Answer:

Hi Joe,

These in-wall speakers are not magnetically shielded. If you have concerns about magnetic shielding, you might consider using three of the IW550LCR speakers for your front stage, mounting your right and left speaker vertically and one speaker for your center channel horizontally. Keep in mind that if you have a plasma or LCD TV, you will not need to be concerned over magnetic shielding.

Setting up a home theatre room. My rec room is 20' long and 15' wide; however, the speaker mounting area will be nearly half that. I am lookin for a decently priced sound system in wall that will accomodate this... The drywall is not up yet and I need to know since its a basement do I take insulation out of the wall where these speakers are going? If you can send me links to products you'd suggest for a 4:1 system (no centre speaker) it would be greatly appreciated. If so i can draw out what the room looks like and send a link.

Hi Gary,
The insulation should not come in contact with the speakers. The IW840 are our best polypropylene. You could take a look at the next step up in quality, the Kevlar pair our IW850. We also have a 10" in wall sub and amp combo that would work quite well (OSD IWS10 & SMP250). If you want a powered sub to complete your 4.1, we do have a few choices, such as the PS10. In addition, the Yamaha YH-RX-V373 is a great home theater receiver. Beyond that, all you need is speaker cable such as our 16-2. Great sound at a great price!

I used the IW 840's to replace old tired in wall speakers. The install was a snap and I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality nice highs and the bass was more than adequate. The speakers are used for background music in multiple rooms at home, as I've already said the sound quality is quite good for my application, the IW 840"s could definitely be used for a nice basic home theater system. Now that I have listened to them I will be ordering the 2 additional pairs needed to finish replacing the other tired in walls. For the price you can't beat the sound quality!

Being that I am very knowledgeable and have been in the home theater business for nearly 8 years, purchasing from Outdoor Speaker Depot was extremely easy. The products I purchased were all in stock and the delivery was quick. Shipping charges were average; I spent just over $1,000 and shipping was about $85. They even substituted the higher grade volume control because they either had a computer error or ran out of inventory just after my purchase. (Saved me about $30.) I will purchase again in the future.

I purchased these speakers for the man cave (garage) the problem now is the sound in the garage is better than the house. I would put these speakers up againt any brand. I have expensive speakers in the house and these pump out the base just as good. For the money I spent you cant go wrong

Beginners Luck!!! WOW! ...

Beginners Luck!!! WOW! I'm building my first real "Home Theater� on a budget. I must admit that I really was not prepared for the awesome experience that I just had with these speakers. First of all, ordering and delivery was excellent; everything arrived as planned. I replaced some old makeshift speakers with two 8"(front) and one 6.5" center. Although I still have two 8"(rear) to replace, I immediately turned-on the �Incredible Hulk� and watched it with my teenager. We were so blown away that the first thing that he said after the movie ended was, "When are you going to install the others!?" If you are just testing the audiophile waters, like me, you owe it to yourself to start with these speakers and grow up to the big boys if need be!

I bought this pair of speakers for front left and right in my living room. The living is open to my kitchen and dining room, as well as being a large room with 20 foot ceilings. These speakers were much better than I could have expected. They sound great and were very easy to install. For the money, I don't think you find any better
