Lifetime Tech Support

If you want the best omni speaker on the market, the OS850 is the one! We designed this outdoor ground speaker with fiberglass, not ABS plastic, for even better sound quality. This sturdy omni ground speaker is tough and includes a weatherproof 8" down-firing polypypropylene woofer that cannot collect condensation or dust. A new molded tweeter and woofer combo delivers smooth indoor quality sound and broader dynamic range for outdoor use, while the large weather-resistant port adds efficiency and additional 6dB of bass output. Installation is easy. Add one or even two for full, 360 degrees of beautiful sound in your backyard.

What Is an Omni Speaker?
Popular with landscape professionals and audio contractors, omni speakers offer omni-directional, 360' surround sound with no obstructions. If there are multiple people scattered in different areas, the sound is consistent, not mixed. This feature plus the durable nature of the Omni make it a popular speaker for theme parks, hotels, and resorts; however, omnis are also quite common for residential use.

Should I bury my omni speaker to get better sound?
You don't have to bury your Omni speakers but it will enhance sound quality and here's why. The sound comes out of the "mushroom cap" on top of the speaker. When you bury the omni (a few inches above the grille), the sound has a surface to bounce off of--the ground acts like a tuned baffle!

What kind of amplification do I need?
The OS850 is a passive speaker, meaning it will require power from an amplifier or receiver. This speaker has high power handling so you'll want to pair it with an amp that can handle 300W. We suggest our AMP300 high current amp to get the best sound performance from your new omni speaker.

26 Questions asked on 8" High Definition Omni Two-Way Outdoor Ground Speaker, 70V Optional - OS850

eric • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q can you use paging with this speaker
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Eric: It depends on your source whether it has the ability to page or not. It would have to be an 8 ohm system to use it in its current configuration. If you have a 70V system you would need to add an external transformer like our EW70V. Make sure you determine whether your Receiver is 8 ohm or 70 Volt. TL
Dick HERRICK • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Is a sub needed with he 850 speakers
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Dick: These speakers feature an 8 inch mid bass driver and have decent bass already. You can purchase and install the pair and I believe you will be very happy with the bass response. We do feature a dedicated subwoofer that matches these speakers(OM-SUB300) but it would need a dedicated subwoofer amplifier like our SMP250 to really make an impact. This can be easily added after the initial installation. As always we feature 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Thank you for considering OSD Audio branded products. TL
Donal • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I am looking to get an outdoor waterproof speaker to bring out boating, I am looking to just connect an MP3 player to the speakers and have a portable power source, would this speaker be suitable or does it need to be connect to an amp? If not suitable what would you recommend?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Donal, This would need an amp or receiver for power, and it is completely weatherproof. We dont recommend submerging it in water, however. Take a look at our wireless speakers like the AW825. This weather-resistant speaker uses a transmitter and can be run on batteries or a AC power cord. CL/MA
David J • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I'm interested in using these in the Phoenix, AZ area. They would be subjected to harsh sunlight all year. Is there a recommended way to paint these a light color? Would painting them void any warranty?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi David: Painting the speakers would not void the warranty on the internal components. I would take the speaker to a dedicated paint store to get a opinion on what paint would work best on enclosure for your enviroment. TL
David J • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Thanks for the quick reply on my painting question. Now, one last detail I forgot to ask before. If I use these in the 70v configuration you offer, what would the frequency response be? You show 38 to 20k for the 8 ohm version, my TOA 900 amps send out 20-20k, so I hope the 70v version of this system keeps close to the original 8 ohm specs. Thanks again.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi David: Frequency Response should be identical only it will be in Mono of course. TL
