    OSD Audio's SVC300 is an impedance-matching volume control that lets you adjust the volume of a pair of speakers independently of other speakers within a whole house audio system. Ideal for areas such dining or conference rooms where you may want softer volumes or for saunas or garages where you may want higher volumes, the SVC300 maintains the full hi-fi audio frequency response with no low frequency roll-off. Equipped with the same features of volume controls that cost twice as much, the SVC300 is rated at 300 Watts peak and includes adjustable jumpers to add up to eight pairs of 8-ohm speakers simultaneously. The impedance-matching feature helps stabilize the ohm load going back to the amp or receiver to avoid overheating and damaging expensive equipment. A complete volume control kit that fits into a standard single-gang box, the SVC300 also includes the junction box, screws and assorted color trim plates (white, ivory and almond) so you can choose the color that best matches the room. This versatile whole house volume control is compatible with almost any dedicated audio zone or whole house system, and the 12-step rotary knob adjusts the volume from inaudible to loud and everything in between.

    What Is Impedance Protection?
    Speakers are specified by impedance, which is a measurement of resistance to alternating current, and a common value for speakers is 8 ohms. When you're connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp's minimum load requirements because going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. The SVC300 allows you to match the impedance with the number of speakers being controlled with the capabilities of your amp. A basic multi-room system will typically have an amplifier/receiver, a speaker selector, four to eight pairs of speakers, and volume controls. Impedance-matching volume controls feature three settings depending on how many speakers you are connecting. For one to two pairs of 8-ohm speakers, the setting is 1/2x; for three or four pairs of 8 ohm speakers, the setting is 4X. Keep in mind that volume controls do not add gain (volume) to your speakers but simply attenuate the volume up or down. During setup, you'll set the source volume to its optimum level, then the volume control turns the sound down to inaudible levels.

    Hi Nicole, The SVC300 does not feature a back box, but the OVC300 does include one. The in-wall SVC300 will fit in a standard single gang box. We have the OVC300 that has a complete box type housing primarily for outdoor applications but can be adapted for indoor use.     Hi Justin, The SVC300 will work because you are still at a speaker level (8ohm). This is a passive in-line device. The12 volt power is to the head unit which has nothing to do with the speaker signal. So yes you can use one of these between your head unit and the speakers. CL
    Aaron • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I am going to use this for 2 sets of your in wall speakers for inside,and the OVC300 for outside controlling I pair of speakers.I am doing this so that if needed I can have the inside speakers quiet for inside peace, but still be able to have the outside speakers as loud as I want.WIll this work? Do I need the 14/4 wire to make install easier or will 14/2 be ok from the speakers to the control knob.Also I have a very old reciever will this knob be ok with it and what do I set it too.Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

    Hi Aaron, We recommend installing only one pair of speakers per volume control. For inside, use two volume controls for your two pairs to keep the power load balanced, especially if you’re using an older receiver. If you would like to keep the majority of the cable in one jacket, you can use a 4-conductor cable to each volume control and then 2-conductor from the volume control to the speaker. CL/MA 1445

Other instructions state switch setting is based on how many pairs of speakers per control. I am running 1 pair per control, so what do I set the impedance switch to....1/2x or 8x?

    Hi Dave, The Impedance setting is based upon how many total speakers you are connecting to a single output from your amplifier/receiver, whether you are connecting directly to the amplifier/receiver to the volume controls or going through a speaker selector before getting to the volume controls. As an example if you have four pairs of volume controls each connected to a pair of 8 ohm speakers, your setting will be 4X on each volume controls. If you were using two volume controls connected to two pairs on each volume control, the setting would still be 4X. If you have three pairs of 8 ohm speakers connected to three volume controls, step up to 4X. If you have 5 (6, 7 or 8) total speakers, step up to 8X. If you have a pair of 4 ohm speakers (BOSE outdoor speakers as an example), you count them as two 8 ohm speaker pairs. Let me know what your amplifier/receiver you are using and how many speakers you have and if you are planning to use a speaker selector. If you are using a speaker selector with impedance-matching volume controls, you may need to make sure the protection switch or button is disabled (turned off). That way the impedance- matching volume controls are doing the protection. TL/MA 1503
    matt • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I have installed an SVC-300 to one pair of Cambridge Soundworks Model Six speakers which are 8 ohms. The receiver is an Onkyo TX-8050 which puts out a steady 80 watts. I am using 14 gauge wire with a run of approximately 60 feet. When I turn the receiver to a higher volume, the SVC-300 seems to have a slow pulsating vibration to it. Is this normal? What should my setting be on the volume control, 1/2x, 4x, or 8x?

    Hi Matt, The setting for this volume control would be 1/2X. If you have the volume up considerably on your Onkyo and down on the SVC300, it's holding back all that current in the transformers so it could create the vibration you describe. CL/MA 1884
