Do I need special cable to run outdoor speakers?
We strongly recommend our direct burial, CL3/FT4 waterproof cable and wire connectors that are designed for the outdoors. Our speaker wire uses a specially formulated UV-resistant, white polyethylene jacket that provides protection against water damage and allows the cables to withstand extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and high temperatures and incorporate twice the insulation of average cable. If you plan to bury the cable, OSD recommends you bury it 4-6" underground so that it's not visible nor pose a danger of somebody tripping over it. Our speaker cable is ideal to use in direct burial applications. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

Add Volume Controls
Volume controls can be a great addition to a system providing both proper impedance matching and more hands-on local control of the volume in the listening area. We offer a great selection of outdoor volume controls to choose from!

48 Questions asked on 6.5" 2-Way Architectural Indoor/Outdoor Weather-Resistant Patio Speaker Pair, Black Or White - AP670

John • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I have two prs of the AP670 outdoor speakers for about 5 yrs and I have just begun to hear a buzzing sound especially during a pause in sound ( change in cd , radio commercials etc ) checked all my connecting and have used same equipment Have they just deteriorated ? Due to being outdoors in all seasons or is there a fix ?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi John: I would need to know more about your whole setup to answer your question properly. It would be unusual if both pairs of speakers were all having the same issues unless it was related to your overall system, components (source), volume controls or speaker selector (if applicable) or connectivity (cables). Maybe you can contact me at tim@osdaudio.com and let me know what equipment you do have and how it is configured. And have you added anything since the original setup? Thank you in advance TL/3921

A It is very possible what you're hearing is the noise floor of your pre-amp, amp or receiver increase due to natural aging of internal components (ie: capacitors, resistors, cheap IC's)
Tim • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Hi, which AMP would you recommend to power 2 pairs of these speakers? Would the AMP120 be sufficient or do you suggest going for the AMP200? Thank you.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Tim: Your best choice is the AMP200 a true High Current Amplifier that is 2 ohm stable. And at 4 ohm with the 2 pair running at once the 4 ohm load demands higher output which the AMP200 has no problem delivering. We do have a new Digital Amplifier the XMP100 which will play 2 speakers at a time since it is 93% efficient versus the AMP120 at 50%. It just does not have the headroom as the AMP200. And the A and B switch work the same as the AMP120 where you push speaker A and speaker B pops out. You can push both in at the same time which we would not recommend on the AMP120. TL/4355
Chris • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I have a question about the performance rating: Your manual indicates 120 Watts @ 8 Ohms for the AP670 speakers. However, for the units it indicates "speaker pair." So, is the power rating 120 Watts per PAIR of speakers (i.e. 60 Watts per speaker)? Or is it 120 Watts per speaker? Also, would this be considered the dynamic/max rating? Or RMS? Thanks!
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Chris: These are rated at 120 Watts per speaker RMS with a peak around 200 watts. They were rated as the one of the top Patio speakers due the their Bass response. Due to the ported design they are not recommended for direct exposure to the elements. Our AP650 have the highest rating for direct exposure to the elements. TL/4360
JACK • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Why is there rust showing up on the grills after one year ? I have placed these under a roof over hang and pergola. I have contacted your service department by email twice, over the past week, and have heard no response.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Jack: These are steel grills with a heavy duty powder coating that are not supposed to rust for some time. Any type of scratch or something that might have knocked the Powder coating may cause some rusting to the grill below. In reality when we cut the perforation holes in the sheet metal and then bend them so they can be dropped into the slot the metal starts to rust. You try to make sure to cover the grill with the Powder Coating to slow down that process. I am assuming you might also live near the Ocean where salt water gets into the air. Either way this has been a problem for some speakers and we are in the process of changing some of the grills to Aluminum. Try calling our Offices at 562-697-2600 ex 101 will get you to the receptionist and she can direct you to the RMA department or one of the Customer Service consultants. TL/
