Features & Specifications

A dual voice coil ceiling speaker allows both of a stereo's channels to drive a single cone, playing both the left and the right channel through a single speaker cone. The OSD Audio MK690TT Dual Voice Coil Trimless Ceiling Speaker with Thin Bezel is available at Outdoor Speaker Depot to connect both a right and left speaker from a single source. Use it in small spaces, whether it's a narrow hallway or a big closet, to combine the sound from both speakers into a full range output mono output. The speaker has three position contour switches for both high (-3dB, 0) and low (+3dB) frequencies accessible from the front of the speaker. This way, the speaker can be tuned for whichever room where it's actually being employed. The trimless design means that the speakers are flush mounted and can blend into the decor of any room without looking awkward or out of place. The speakers handle 150 watts and have 8 Ohm impedance and a frequency response of 50Hz - 22kHz. This product comes with a 10-year warranty.

The Convenience of Contour Switches
This speaker also features three position contour switches for both High and Low Frequencies (-3dB, 0 & +3dB) accessible from the front of the speaker. This feature allows the speaker to be tuned to match the actual room where it is being utilized. In addition, a 4 and 8 ohm switch allows the speaker to be connected as stereo pairs (connecting only one of the available voice coils of each of the two speakers, the switch set to 4 ohms). This provides a natural step up to a standard pair of 2-way speakers featuring only one tweeter per speaker.

Dual Tweeters
The Dual Tweeters of the MK690TT double the sound field in both the Single Stereo Summed Mono setting (8 ohms setting) or when utilized as a stereo pair (4 ohm setting).

What Is a Dual Voice Coil Ceiling Speaker?
A Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Ceiling Speaker uses a special voice coil cone design that allows both channels of a stereo system to drive one cone. Sounds complicated but it's not. Basically, a DVC speaker plays both right and left channels through one speaker cone. You get both channels but without the acoustic separation that happens with two speakers. There are places like bathrooms, closets or hallways that just can’t accommodate multiple speakers so a DVC speaker solves the problem and produces great sound.

Dual Applications!
Our clever engineers added a 4 or 8 ohm switch so the speaker to be converted to a single mono speaker and combined with a second ACEMK690TT. Now you have a stereo pair of speakers where only one of the voice coils is connected on each speaker. This setup dramatically increases coverage in your zone because the dual tweeters are active and provide additional dispersion of high frequencies for the pair. The switch is set to 8 ohm when connecting both voice coils in the single speaker application and set to 4 ohm when used as stereo pair with just one voice coil connected.

Trimless Design!
Trimless Speakers are ideal for new construction or retrofit. These elegant, flush mounted speakers blend effortlessly into any room interior and offer outstanding audio performance. The secret behind these stealthy speakers are the micro flange grilles attached by extremely powerful magnets that stay put for quick and easy installation.

I'd adding two in-wall speakers as front L/R in order to remove bookshelf speakers in a remodel. The existing rear L/R speakers are 8 ohm. What will happen if I switch the MK69OTT pair to the 8-ohm settng?
1 Answer
Hi Mike: I am assuming you are planning to use the MK690TT as your right and left front stage speaker. These would work best for a pair of ATMOS or side center speakers where they can be mounted 25% off axis above your optimum viewing /listening area. The best speaker for in Ceiling front stage are the ACE870 8" angled LCR speaker that can be mounted closer to the wall where your screen/monitor is mounted. The key to any Home theater setup is to have the tweeter on each and every speaker pointed to your optimum seating area. You also want to match the right and left speaker to your center channel speaker. The tweeter needs to match either metal or soft dome. The ACE870 has the same carbon fiber cone as the MK690TT and Metal dome tweeter. Note the 4/8 ohm switch of the MK690TT allows you to connect two as aright and left pair (4 ohm setting where you connect only one voice coil per speaker) or 8 ohm if you are connecting both voice coils. In each case you will get a 4 ohm speaker that will play louder than an 8 ohm speaker. I am assuming you will be able to make adjustments for each channel to match volumes with your Audio/Video Receiver. Good luck TL/4583

Can this speaker be installed in a bathroom?
1 Answer
Hi Fred: Yes, you can use this speaker for your bathroom. It is Dual Voice coil speaker that you connect to your system using a 4 conductor cable color coded Red; R+, Black; R-, White; L+, Green; L-. You have two sets of inputs, one for Right (+/-) and the second for Left (+,-). It is not critical which sets of inputs you connect to both are labeled (In+/-). I would suggest running a bid of Silicon around the back of the frame that goes around the edge of the hole cutout. Good choice TL/4170

what kind of speaker wires should i use for this speaker? 4 conductors wire or 2 conductors speakers wire ? Thanks
1 Answer
Hi Lee, You can use either with this speaker, but it would be much more convenient to run 4-conductor wire so you don't have two separate wires.

Can I use this speaker in the ceiling of my front porch, outside but some what protected.
1 Answer
Hi David, Although we do have speakers designed for humidity like the ICE600WRS, you could use the MK690TT, which has a powder-coated grill. You can install these speakers in the soffit as long as they are not in directly exposed to the humidity. To protect your investment, we also suggest spraying them with a coat of Rustoleum. would like to use for suround sound rear @ 10'-0" ht
1 Answer
Hi Bob: Are you limited to a single location for you Surround? This speaker does feature a 4 or 8 ohm switch. Which allows you to purchase two to be connected as a stereo pair. You just connect one of the voice coils of each speaker and make sure to set the switch to 4 ohm. Location would be roughly two feet behind your seating area with the tweeters aimed at your seating location. Using the speaker as a stereo pair works well especially since the dual tweeters play in both applications. If you have space only for a single speaker this will work as well. Just mount two feet behind listening area directly in line with center channel speaker in the front. Make sure the switch is set to 8 ohm in the single summed mono/stereo mode. Please let us know if you have additional questions. TL

Made me a believer !!
After 2 years of searching and with a fluctuating budget, I found the perfect surround/Multi-room audio speaker for my home. I was a little nervous ordering from OSD because I hadn't read/heard much about their speakers. I am EXTREMELY glad I did. First of all, the WAF is off the charts. My wife is happy with the small foot print these speakers have due to the trimless design. The off white(Ivory) color these speakers came in were a perfect match for my ceiling. This made installation even easier since I would not have to paint them. Spring loaded speaker connectors allow for quick wire connections. Cardboard cutout templates were extremely helpful, can't imagine having to use paper. There were a few things that I did have to do for my particular installtion that may not reflect on a typical in-ceiling installation. I used these speakers as my surround L+R speakers in a 5.2 HT setup. When ordering, I was not sure how the 4/8 ohm switch worked. It turns out that each voice coil is 8 ohms and the "switch" wires the voice coils in parallel for a 4 ohm load. This may cause a problem for some receivers that are not able to handle the 4 ohm load. My receiver is only stable with 6-16 ohm loads. I eventualy left the coils set to 8 ohm and wired them in series to provide a higher 16 ohm load for my receiver. Output is less due to the higher resistance of the speaker, but I compensated for this effect by adjusting my receiver gains. The aimable tweeters were a bit stiff, adjustments took a lot of care to prevent any damage to the tweeter domes. SO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING YOUR THUMBS!! I dented one of the tweeters with my nail while doing this. The sound seems unaffected however. I was planning on experimenting with rear enclosures so a good seal would be very important. After closer inspection I noticed that the tweeter bridge design left an opening on each side of the speaker. Call it OCD but I feel complete isolation of the front and rear waves of the speaker should be done in order to prevent "sound cancellation", which will affect overall bass output. Nothing a bit of tape and foam couldn't accomplish. All said and done, my family and I are very satisfied with the purchase. Shipping was prompt, product arrived safely and the 10 year warranty is great. I will order from OSD again and will recommend them to anyone.

Superb Craftmanship and Sound
I received my speakers and I didn't bother to check them out until I was ready to install them. Wow, when I opened the box and took a look at these very attractive looking speakers and I was impressed by the craftsmanship of them. I was impressed as well on something as silly as the ceiling template that was made of cardboard rather than some that I have seen that have been made of paper. I'm going to be upgrading my system to accommodate different zones, as I plan on adding outdoor speakers as well. I have connected these speakers to my current system and they sound very good. I would definitely recommend these speakers. For the price you can't get a better speaker.
