Do I need special cable to run outdoor speakers?
We strongly recommend our direct burial, CL3/FT4 waterproof cable and wire connectors that are designed for the outdoors. Our speaker wire uses a specially formulated UV-resistant, white polyethylene jacket that provides protection against water damage and allows the cables to withstand extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and high temperatures and incorporate twice the insulation of average cable. If you plan to bury the cable, OSD recommends you bury it 4-6" underground so that it's not visible nor pose a danger of somebody tripping over it. Our speaker cable is ideal to use in direct burial applications. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

Add Volume Controls
Volume controls can be a great addition to a system providing both proper impedance matching and more hands-on local control of the volume in the listening area. We offer a great selection of outdoor volume controls to choose from!

48 Questions asked on 6.5" 2-Way Architectural Indoor/Outdoor Weather-Resistant Patio Speaker Pair, Black Or White - AP670

Ed • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I have a patio system and would like to add one more speaker. Is it possible to connect to one of the existing speakers.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Ed: Need to know more information. What amplifier or receiver are you using (make and model). How is your system configured (wired). How many Speakers (make and model would help). Are you using Volume Controls or Speaker Selectors? I would love to help you but just need a little more info... TL
Jonny • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q We see AP670—Visual Performance 6 ? “ patio speakers in white. We need white speakers with the following dimensins: length 9 inches (9 ? is fine). Width 6 inches (6 ? is fine) and depth 6 inches (6 ? is fine). Do you have speakers to meet our interest?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Johnny: I would recommend either our AP520 or AP525 which both come in white or black. They are both slightly bigger than your target dimensions but going smaller you would have to settle for a 4" 2 way speaker. The 5.25" will have a broader frequency response and still have some bass. The AP525 White: 7.3" x 6.6" x 9.7" and the AP520: 5 5/16 x 7 3/16 x 9.25". TL
Mike • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q What are the dimensions of the AP670.
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
A Hi Mike, 6.5" speakers are an ideal size. The AP670's Dimensions are :(H × W × D): 14 9/16"×8 1/4"×7 7/8" I hope that helps! CL 1240
Robert • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q I've had a pair of what I think are 640s in our back yard for nearly 10 years now. They're a little discolored from this Texas heat but they still sound amazing. I'm looking to add another pair on the deck we built. I'm a little confused though. The specs show that the AP670s go down to 44hz. However, the photo of the back of the actual speaker shows 30hz. Which is it? Thanks much, Robert

A Hi Robert, The AP670 patio speakers are 30Hz to 22 kHz. We corrected the specs on the site. These patio speakers are a step up from your trusty AP640s which are rated from 39Hz.. Thank you for pointing that out. TL/MA - 1591

A The site has not been corrected. The specs still says 44HZ for the AP670...which is it? The more expensive AP650 says 37HZ so it would seem that the 44HZ is correct for the AP670, even though the speaker itself says 30HZ...
