A It is helpful to have zone on and off capability, but as others have noted, the LED light is very bright, and the unit consumes a lot of power in the passive mode, so I still believe there should be a master power button. Perhaps, if there is a ever a future revision to the design, this will be considered. I own one of these, and I do like it, but a master power button on the remote (and so it could be controlled by universal remotes), would be a design improvement. Moreover, an IP interface, so it could be controlled via IP, would be even better.

A I would leave the power button on and plug the unit into a switched outlet on your receiver/amp.

A Hi Nathan, This happens to be the only speaker selector that we manufacture that doesn't have built in impedance protection. Thus, if you are running more than one zone, impedance matching volume controls are required so that the load doesn't affect your amp in a negative way. What kind of amp would you be running into this selector? -BM 2379
Tom • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Q Hello, My home has 5 pairs of ceiling speakers that are wired without volume controls. The wires all terminate in one location where I will put my amp. I have an old Harmon Kardon AVR 25 II that has 2 separate speaker outputs. I am interested in using the ATM-7 Zone Speaker Selector to power at most 3 pairs of speakers at a time. I really want to use this speaker selector so I can use the remote and control it from my phone (via home automation system I will be able to turn on the amp, speaker selector, then choose the speaker pairs). There are no other speaker selectors that I have seen that can do this. How important are the impedance-matched volume controls? Is there a device I can hook up to the ATM-7 to accomplish this? A Hi Tom, It's great that you are interested in the ATM-7, as it is a very useful product. However, I would not advise you to use it in line with a standard receiver, especially a home theater receiver. The reason being that these types of receivers can usually only handle an 8ohm load, which is one pair of speakers. When running 3 pairs of speaker, as you are intending to, that will create a load of just over 2ohms, which a receiver such as yours wouldn't be able to handle. Even if you ran impedance matching volume controls on each of the 3 zones that you plan to use, I don't think it would be safe with that receiver. My recommendation would be to run our AMP200 to the ATM-7 to give it sufficient power. If you run the AMP200, you would not need volume controls. Let us know if that answers your questions.
