The ACE850 incorporates premium technologies such as Kevlar® woofers, pivoting titanium dome tweeters and sophisticated crossovers provide deep bass and exceptional top-end frequency response. Kevlar® is the best component for woofers. It responds note for note without coloration and has big cranking power so you can dial up your system for higher listening levels.

    Step Up Features You'll Love!
    • Deep, rich bass and exceptional top-end frequency response
    • Sturdy Kevlar® cone woofer handles high volume levels
    • Pivoting aluminum dome tweeter
    • Spray paintable grilles to match any decor
    Audiophiles Love Kevlar® Woofers
Kevlar® is a super strong material known for its ability to produce powerful but very smooth bass tones. Kevlar® woofer cones retain their shape even at very high energy levels, which means you can crank up the volume and experience spine-tingling sound without distortion or coloration.

    Why Go Trimless?
It's really a matter of aesthetic preference. Our Architectural Ceiling Element (ACE) Trimless speakers do not include the the 3/4-inch trim you typically see around in-wall and ceiling speakers. This gives the speakers a much stealthier appearance. The micro flange grilles are attached by extremely powerful magnets that stay put for quick and easy installation. Adds less visual impact on your architectural audio installation.

    Pivoting Titanium Dome Tweeter
The job of the tweeter is to deliver the higher frequencies of music and soundtracks. The tweeter is also adjustable, meaning it can be aimed toward the listening area. This can make a big difference in sound quality especially for dialog and higher frequencies.

How does this speaker mount in the ceiling?
Customers often ask us if they need special installation mounting brackets on their OSD ceiling speakers. The answer is no and here’s why. All our in-ceiling speakers feature a dog leg (L-shaped) mounting system that is part of the frame. Before you install the speakers, remove the grille and you’ll see several the mounting screws near the front frame. These screws need to be loosened to activate the dog leg clamps. Use a screwdriver to loosen (turn to the left) these screws and the clamp will come loose. When the speaker is in position in the ceiling, tighten (turn to the right) the screw and the speaker will be secured to the ceiling.

What Type of Speaker Wire and What Gauge?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. We recommend our OSD Audio CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for in-wall and outdoor speaker installs. This type of cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high-quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

    What Is Butyl Rubber Surround?
With almost double the shelf life of foam, butyl rubber has been the choice of speaker designers looking to optimize the sound based upon materials that go together. The Surround is just one of the integral parts of the speaker's motor structure. Butyl Rubber gives the speaker more excursion capability featuring a deeper bass with a wider frequency response, and its shelf life is closer to 25 years compared to the foam at 12 to 15 years.

Testing the Sound Quality of In-Ceiling Speakers
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. Keep in mind, however, that these flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall or ceiling. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure (in this case your house wall) the speaker can’t produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.

For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

sonya • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM is there any difference between the ACE850 and the ICE850 besides the thin bezel on the ACE
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Sonya, The only other difference between the ICE850 and ACE850 is the sensitivity rating. The ICE850 is at 89db when the ACE850 is at 88db, so not a big difference. CS 3660
Guy • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM The manual and one of the comments lists this speaker as having 92db sensitivity, but the specs section lists 88db.Which is right?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Guy: Go with the Manual, our site is currently being updated a category at a time. And we will be changing the on-line listing to match the Manual. Sorry for the confusion, ironically I am the one doing the updates so I better step it up TL/3678
RHB • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM This is probably a more general question, but I am going to mount these in wood, stained dark brown. Are their replacement grills or is there a suggested way to get a grill in a darker color - black, etc? Thanks
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
HI RHB: The Grills are paint able, You can use a spray paint. After you paint it remove the cloth cloth attached on the inside of the Grill. TL/3976
cabot • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Do the ACE850's come with the New Construction Bracket PCB-C800?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Marshall: These do not come with a New Construction Bracket. It is optional and I believe the ,model number is wrong. It should be a NCBC8-K New Construction Bracket Pair For 8" In Ceiling Speaker. TL/4436
Anthony • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I am trying to finish out my 7.2 home theater for my new basement. So far I have 3 OSD-MK-IW550LCR for front, R and L and have the Onkyo TX-NR656 ready to power them. I am looking for the rear and side speakers to put in the ceiling and am wondering if these would do well. I also plan on two OSD sub-woofers to round it all out (one in front left, one in back right). The space is about 16 ft x 17 ft but is also open to adjoining spaces (no doors).
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Anthony: The best speakers for In-Ceiling Speakers for Custom Home Theater for Front Stage LCR (which you have covered) and also Surround and Effects speakers are our Angled In-ceiling speakers the ACE870 (best for front stage) and the ACE670 for the surround/effects speakers. The angled speakers give you more mounting/placement options. With the ONKYO you will look for a pair of surrounds to be on either side of the optimum listening area or even slightly behind. That would be labeled as channel 4 and 5 for the Surround. Then they have channel 6 for sub and 7 and 8 for Surround Back or Height (effects speakers). These would be for your Dolby Atmos speakers located between the front stage and seating area. You can place the height speakers 3 to 5 feet in front of your optimum viewing/listening seating area. You can go with the 8" if you want but the 6.5 are typically enough. Right now we are out of stock on both the ACE670 and ACE870 but if you contact our sales department they can provide you with a couple of direct replacements from our Black Series. We should have the two ACE speakers in the second quarter 2018. TL/4810
